Canadian Association of Movers: CAM helps consumers make a quality move

Spring is coming and many Canadians will be preparing to move. Spring and summer are peak periods for moving companies. Make sure you book early to get a reputable mover! Here are ten tips from the Canadian Association of Movers (CAM) to help you get a quality move and avoid moving fraud:

DOs

1. Use a reputable mover. Check with your provincial government, the Better Business Bureauand, especially, with CAM (at www.mover.net/consumers.html or toll free 1-866-860-0065).

2. Always make sure you get your estimate IN WRITING.

3. Read Industry Canadas Consumer Checklist for Choosing a Moving Company.

4. Ask how your goods will be physically protected and insured while in transit.

5. Visit the movers physical location, that is, their office or warehouse.

DONTs

1. Rely on advertised or verbal promises.

2. Make your decision based solely on price.

3. Accept any agreement not supported in writing.4. Assume the mover is insured.

5. Assume that the mover you contract with will be the one you move with. You have a responsibility to protect yourself. Find out about your rights and responsibilities. Thereare consumer protection laws to protect you, but its far easier to get a reputable mover than to tryand get a remedy after the move.

Professional movers assist their customers to prepare for their moves, ensure their goods are protected and do the jobs at the agreed terms and conditions. CAM is Canadas trade association for the moving industry. It certifies movers, helps consumers find quality moving services and monitors movers performance. Its mission is to promote qualityservice. Good consumer relations and a positive industry reputation are CAMs goals.
