Photography is a very interesting hobby to cultivate, especially if you travel extensively. Even if you are a novice, there are many techniques to adopt which will help you in taking great photographs. While it is easy to take good pictures of still figures or inanimate objects, there is a special thrill to taking pictures of moving objects or action photography as it is also referred to. So, do you need to be a professional with lots of cameras and equipment to take ‘moving' pictures? Nah! Just follow these simple tips listed below and you can get started with some great action photography yourself! Remember, these are tips to take action photos with a digital camera.

STEP 2:

Shutter speed. Cameras with a higher shutter speed are better than those with lower shutter speeds, for action shots. So, if you're using a digital camera for action shots, pick one with a higher shutter speed.

STEP 3:

Panning. One way of using a camera with low shutter speeds is to use the technique of ‘panning'. When taking an action shot, frame the subject, click the shutter and continue moving the camera to track the subject. You will get a good action shot in this way, including a nice blurry background, giving the effect of an object in motion.

STEP 4:

Continuous shots. Use a camera which allows you to preset the number of shots to be taken, before writing the photos to the camera memory. This will help when you are shooting photos of fast moving subjects or objects, such as a sports shot or a moving rollercoaster.

STEP 5:

Lens size. Sporting and action shots are best taken with a long and fast lens. It is preferable to use a 300mm lens than the standard lens in your camera.

STEP 6:

Taking a shortcut. This one is not really photography, but if you really want to have some cool action shots in your collection and all you've got is a digital camera, shoot the subject as a video instead. Then using your computer and any photo software, isolate the different frames into individual action shots.Taking action shots with your digital camera will come easily once you practice any or all of the tips mentioned above. However, if you are really serious about photography in general and action photography in particular, then it makes sense to invest in a good quality analog camera.
