Albuquerque International Sunport is the largest commercial airport in New Mexico. Throughout its terminal and ground complex, it offers a diversity of services and facilities for the passengers, numbering more than 6.5 million, who use the airport each year.
Located at 2200 Sunport Boulevard, SE Albuquerque, Albuquerque International Sunport is only four miles from Albuquerque’s central business district. For drivers who plan to leave their cars at Albuquerque International Sunport, the airport has parking spaces for almost 4,000 vehicles. These spaces are provided both in a covered four-level parking building that can accommodate almost 3,500 vehicles, and in a surface parking lot nearby that takes about 500 vehicles. Parking in the building is available on an hourly basis, while the spaces in the surface lot are available long term.
The covered building and the surface lot are open for parking 24 hours a day for the convenience of people using Albuquerque International Sunport. Aviation Police patrol the areas, and the lots are well lit at night to ensure the safety of users. Spaces for the vehicles of people with disabilities are located on each level of the covered parking building. To facilitate ease of movement as much as possible around the airport for people with special needs, these parking spaces are all situated close to the elevators on each floor. Since its establishment almost 70 years ago, Albuquerque International Sunport has grown and expanded into the modern facility it is today. The number of passengers it handles has increased by an annual average of 2% over the past 15 years, with almost seven million people passing through the airport in 2006. Its terminal, designed in the Spanish-Peublo architectural style, has been expanded twice in the past few years. It now covers 570,000 square feet and has two concourses with 23 gates.
