Our Mission
At Discovery House it is our mission to provide comprehensive services for persons working toward recovery ~ through community awareness, quality and holistic clinical services ~ in an efficient, safe and fiscally sound environment.
The overall goal of all DISCOVERY HOUSE treatment centers is to offer effective outpatient treatment that promotes holistic recovery.
Our Statement of Philosophy
Recovery is defined as a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential. It is our job to support our patients as they move through the recovery process.
For our patients receiving medication assisted treatment it is our contention that patients should be maintained on medication for the shortest possible period of time, consistent with that individual’s goals, medical considerations, and their personal recovery. However, stabilized patients who abstain from use of alcohol and other intoxicating drugs, and show evidence of improvement in health and social functioning should be considered to be in recovery or recovering. We recognize that opioid addiction is a chronic, progressive illness that requires more than an acute care model of service delivery. We support a model of sustained recovery support analogous to medical management of other chronic diseases.
We believe that the inclusion of family members and other recovery supports is integral to the treatment of our patients. Harmful behaviors including drug abuse impact all aspects of an individual’s life, treatment is intended to help guide the patient to develop a healthy lifestyle, and improve their personal relationships.
It is our philosophy that the responsibility for personal growth and change lies with the patient. The Discovery House treatment team promotes the following goals and objectives for patient recovery
Health: Overcoming or managing one’s disease(s) as well as living in a physically and emotionally healthy way.
Home: A stable and safe place to live.
Purpose: Meaningful daily activities, such as job, school, volunteerism, family care-taking, or creative endeavors, and the independence, income, and resources to participate in society.
Community: Relationships and social networks that provide support, friendship, love, and hope.

Whether your visit is temporary or long-term, we hope you’ll enjoy all of the things our installation and the local area have to offer.

Fort Lee is situated alongside the Tri-Cities of Virginia – Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Hopewell – as well as the counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie and Prince George. The Army garrison shares many similarities with its neighbors. Beyond its primary mission of training sustainment Soldiers, Fort Lee is a community, a workplace and a home to hundreds of military families.

Within the past decade, Fort Lee has experienced enormous growth as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure mandates and its designation as the Army Sustainment Center of Excellence – a focused training base for military supply, subsistence, maintenance, munitions, transportation and more. Those decisions sparked a massive base modernization mission with a budget of more than $1.2 billion. In addition to new training facilities, administrative areas, dining facilities and barracks, Fort Lee has experienced phenomenal growth among its support facilities for military families.

Fort Lee has witnessed a massive population increase as well. Much of that is due to the realignment of military organizations from other parts of the nation. In addition to the Combined Arms Support Command, Team Lee now consists of the Army Logistics University, the U.S. Army Ordnance School, the U.S. Army Quartermaster School and the U.S. Army Transportation School. Its tenants include headquarters elements of the Defense Commissary Agency, Kenner Army Health Clinic, a Military Entrance Processing Station and the Defense Contract Management Agency.
CASCOM change of command

The daily population of Fort Lee now averages about 34,000 and includes members from all branches of the military service, their families, government civilians and contractors. Furthermore, as many as 70,000 troops will pass through Fort Lee’s classrooms each year, making it the third largest training site in the Army. These are the most significant statistics of all … Fort Lee fully recognizes its tremendous responsibility and the privilege to provide the most comprehensive training and quality of life services possible for the members of the military family who will pass through its gates.

On a final note, the installation command team asks all Fort Lee visitors to exercise caution as they travel throughout post. Slow down, especially around any marching troop formations, construction sites and housing areas. Be aware also that the installation prohibits the use of handheld electronic devices while operating a vehicle as a safety precaution. Fort Lee welcomes you. We hope you will find your visit, your training or your assignment rewarding. We’re proud to say you’re a member of “Team Lee.”
