My staff and my family have enjoyed the ability to do this work, providing the best care with dignity." Michael Stone MD

Roque Center, Inc. was founded as a nonprofit corporation in March of 1972 by a group caring men and women whose lives had been touched in one form or another by the disease of alcoholism or addiction. Our mission has been and remains: “To help those who suffer from alcoholism and addiction to access affordable treatment that they would not otherwise be able to afford in traditional “for profit” private sector treatment programs.”

Since our humble beginnings some 40 years ago we have helped over 34,000 clients receive quality care and treatment in our Social Model, peer oriented and home-like recovery setting. Our program is designed to assist men and women in developing a foundation for long term recovery by affecting positive change in lifestyle and behavior through education, counseling, exposure to alternative coping skills and positive role models, i.e., staff and those further along in the recovery process.

Our life experienced, successfully recovering and caring staff are certified substance abuse professionals who have chosen to dedicate their lives to helping those who wish to recover from alcoholism and addiction to other drugs. We serve our residents through education, one-on-one counseling, guidance, self-disclosure, our truly caring nature and insight into the principles and psychological dynamics contained within our highly reinforced 12-step based approach to recovery. “More people are clean and sober today as a result of AA’s twelve step program than all other treatment methods combined.” (Kessler 1997)

With the realization that recovery is a process and not an event, we are here for our clients and family members both during and after graduation. We offer a free aftercare program through our Wednesday night “Alumni Group” and a Friday Night “Family Group” at no charge to family members and loved ones, many of whom continue to attend long after their loved one has completed the program.

Social Model Recovery Systems provides direct treatment services (at eight locations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties) for those whose lives have become unmanageable due to alcohol and other drug use and/or whose mental health issues are interfering with leading productive lives. Thousands of individuals have found help in our programs since 1987. We know that ultimately recovery is a personal choice, but we here at Social Model Recovery Systems are here to assist you in your steps to a healthier lifestyle.

As everyone in our programs contributes in providing a safe and nurturing environment, each is expected to role model healthy behaviors for each other during the treatment process. In our social model settings, the emphasis of recovery is based upon the relationship between the participant and his or her environment (including other participants and staff as a whole). It is the collective and integrated team of employees and participants more than one individual member which creates the ideal social model environment. It is the healing created by everyone’s accumulated knowledge, collective experiences, and cohesiveness that make the social model process work.

Although individual interactions between single staff and participants are supportive, it is the group interactions which prove to be of greater benefit.

In addition to our direct service programs, we operate a community-based alcohol and drug prevention program in the Central City East area (commonly known as Skid Row) in downtown Los Angeles. The mission of the program is to engage the most vulnerable populations of Central City East to challenge systemic conditions and social disparities that threaten a healthy environment.

Finally, our Education Services Department provides training and consulting services to organizations throughout the state of California.
