The flight from Dallas/Fort Worth to Osaka, which had been discontinued after the September 11th terrorist attacks was re-introduced in 2005 but then discontinued just a year later. The launching of non-stop service from Chicago to Nagoya was also introduced but ended within a year. The introduction of services from Chicago to Delhi and from Chicago to Shanghai, is becoming profitable.

American Airlines offers a frequent flyer program, which has become especially attractive to committed AA passengers. AAdvantage is the first such loyalty program in the world, and remains the largest with more than 50 million members. Travel miles accumulated in the program allows members to redeem tickets, upgrade service class, or obtain free / discounted car rentals, hotel stays, merchandise, or other products and services through partners. The most active members, based on the amount and price of travel booked, are designated AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum, and AAdvantage Executive Platinum elite members, with privileges such as separate check-in, priority upgrade and standby processing, or complimentary upgrades.
