Applying Your Machines Settings and Data

Migration process using Easy PC.

1. PNP File Transfer

If doing a 'File' migration, you must now make the PNP file available (and additional spanned files if applicable) to your new Windows installation. If you chose a spanning
option or if your total data exceeds 2Gb of data, Easy PC Transfer will generate
additional files with an extension z??, where ?? is a number from 00 to 99: z01, z02, etc.
If you stored the files to a PNP file on the hard drive, you can burn the file(s) to a CD or a DVD. Make sure that you burn all files that were created during the store operation
including the .PNP and all files with the .z?? extension.

2. Install Easy PC Transfer on the (new) destination machine

Follow the instructions in Section 9: “Easy PC Transfer INSTALLATION” to install
Easy PC Transfer on the Windows machine to which you will be applying the settings
and data. If using the Direct Connect feature, disable 3rd party firewall (McAfee, Norton,
etc) software as it may prevent computers from communicating over a wired or wireless
network.

3. Easy PC Transfer Welcome

Launch Easy PC Transfer via the Easy PC Transfer icon shortcut that was created on the
desktop or from the Start Menu/All Programs/Migo Software/Migo Easy PC Transfer.
Select 'Apply' to apply the saved settings and data to the current machine. Click “Next” to
continue.

4. Transfer Method

Direct Transfer
If your computers are connected over the network or via the included cable, you will see
your old computer name in the drop down dialog box. Select 'Next' to continue.

4b. File Transfer
If you are transferring your settings and data via file(s) choose 'File' and Browse to locate the PNP file you saved during the store operation. Choose 'Next' to continue.

5. Transfer Options

Typical
If you want to move all of the settings and data from your old machine to your new ma-
chine, you should select the 'Typical' Transfer Option. This is the most common scenario
and will move all your files into the same location on the new machine and will map your
application settings to the same or comparable newer application versions on the new ma-
chine. Choose 'Next' to start the migration.

Custom
A 'Custom' transfer allows you select which settings will move or to change the location
of directories or individual files on the new machine. For some applications you can also
apply the settings to different applications that are installed on the new machine. See Ap-
pendix B for details on cross application support.

System Settings Selection
From this screen you can select which System Settings you would like to apply to the
computer. Uncheck settings you do not want applied.

Application Settings Selection
On this screen, you will see which applications settings will be moved and to which ap-
plications they will be applied. By default, Easy PC Transfer will apply settings of the
same application to the same application if it is installed on the destination machine. Mi-
crosoft Outlook Express will be applied to Microsoft Mail on Vista by default. If an ap-
plication is not installed on the destination machine, 'No corresponding application found'
will appear in the Destination column.

In select cases, Easy PC Transfer allows you apply settings across applications: for exam-
ple you can apply your FireFox bookmarks and settings to Internet Explorer or visa versa.
However, the default is to not allow the apply of settings across applications. If the set-
tings of a qualified application have been stored on the source machine but that applica-
tion is not available on the destination machine, 'Do Not Apply' in the Destination column
means the settings will not be applied to the equivalent (but different) application on the
destination machine. You can override this default by choosing the destination applica-
tion from the drop down menu in the Destination Column. Note that you cannot apply
settings from two applications to a single destination application. For example if you had
both IE and Firefox on your source machine, but only have IE installed on the destination
machine, you will only be able to apply settings from one of these applications to IE on
the destination.

File and Folder Destination
Unchecking the box next to directories or file sets will prevent the files from being trans-
ferred. You can change a file or folder destination by double clicking the entry and enter-
ing a new path in the dialog box. Choose 'Next' to begin the migration.

6. Applying Settings

Easy PC Transfer will now migrate the selected system and application settings as well as
your selected files and folders to your new Windows machines. This step can take
anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the amount of data migrated.
When the migration is done, the Applying Settings Screen will have the message: 'The
migration has completed'. If doing a 'Direct' migration, the source machine will have the
same message. You can select 'Finish' and you are ready to use your new machine!

7. Testing

Congratulations! You have successfully completed the migration process using Easy PC
Transfer. Test your new Windows machine to make sure that all your selected system and
application settings as well as your selected files and folders (data) migrated correctly.
For example, to verify that your we browser settings were migrated successfully , launch
your browser and verify that your bookmarks are visible in the Bookmarks menu.
