The two most common types of pesky flying bugs are the mosquitoes and wasps. These two creatures are both not only annoying pests that can infiltrate your home but these creatures can also be a cause of serious health problems. Thankfully there are a number of steps that you can take in order to protect yourself from these flying menaces.

Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are irritating pests that can inflict a painful bite that can cause rather serious skin irritation. But the real threat of the mosquitoes comes from the potential diseases that this pesky bug could be carrying. Mosquitoes can be a carrier for diseases like malaria and the west Nile virus. These diseases affect both animals and human beings alike. If you find yourself stuck with a serious mosquito's problem there are steps you can take to limit their severity.

The easiest way to fight mosquitoes is by limiting their natural environment in your area. Standing pools of water is one of the most common places that mosquitoes lay their eggs so this is a great place to start eliminating your problem. Bird baths and swimming pools are areas that need to given special consideration when you are tidying up your yard. You should ensure that you change the water in your birdbath at least monthly. You should also make sure that you keep you pool well treated with chemicals and that the water is circulating properly.

Whenever you are outside you should make sure you are wearing mosquito repellent with deet and that you are wearing clothing that covers the majority of your body. Another easy tactic to avoid the brunt of a mosquito attack is to avoid being outdoors at the dusk and dawn when the mosquito population is at it's highest. There are many different types of mosquito traps available but the most popular types are foggers and electric traps.

Wasps

The easiest way to identify a wasp problem is to go looking for the nests of the small, irritating creatures. Wasps usually build their nests on the ground or in places like under the eaves of your home. Once you have located the offending nest, you should go to your local hardware store and purchase some wasp insecticide. Wait until after dark to attack the nest as the wasps won't be able to leave the hive and you can destroy it with little interference. It's always a good idea to plug the entrance to the hive using a cloth or a clump of dirt before you begin. If the hive is located on the ground and you don't feel like using insecticide you can carefully dose the hive in gasoline and set fire to it.
