(NC)-Taking care of a new baby is overwhelming. New parents not only have a child to look after, but they have a number of choices to make - everything from diapers to wipes to baby food!

Korey Kealey, food specialist, Food Thought Communications and mom of three, recommends making homemade baby food with fresh ingredients - free from the preservatives commonly found in pre-packaged foods.

"While making your own baby food seems difficult, with the right tool it can be as easy as ABC!" says Kealey. "By using a convenient appliance, like the Oster Digital Blender, you can make a quick meal for your child with just the touch of a button - perfect for busy parents who have their hands full."

Kealey also offers the following mealtime tips for parents with young children:

• Add some interesting flavours to your baby's food. You will learn what your baby likes while introducing new tastes.

• Make meal time a game - let your baby play with the spoon or spatula before the meal. You will not only provide entertainment for your baby, but it will also help you relax.

• Let your baby feed himself/herself as much as possible. Although this may be messy, it helps to ensure that your child gains independence.

Meat and Veggie Dinner

1/2 cup cooked beef or chicken, cubed

2 tablespoons cooked vegetables (eg. carrots, peas, squash)

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup cooked rice

Put all ingredients into the blender container. Cover and process until thoroughly pureed. Heat before serving.

Makes two to three servings.
