2. What is a Botanist?

Botany is a growing job market for those that like to work with flowers and plants. It is the study of plants of all makes and sizes. These may include flowering plants as well as algae, and fungi. This is only a few of the different plants and things that are a part of plant science and botany careers. You may find that some of the different plants and such that you will be studying are not what you thought they would be, and there are many exciting things to learn within the field of botany. In addition, while there is much to learn, there are equally rewarding careers in botany that individuals can pursue.

There are many kinds of plant scientists and the range is wide for what kind of botany you may choose to go into. There are field botanists that study and find new kinds of plants that we don’t know about yet. Others study the way a certain kind of plant interacts with its environment. Still others use microbiology to study the structure of the plants and how they convert chemicals into compounds. This can be an interesting and fun part of botany. You may also find a new use for these plants that you are studying.

The benefit of this kind of research is that we can improve our medications and food supplies for the better. By studying plants we can learn a lot about how things work on our planet and with our environment. This is one of the best parts of this kind of work and can help a lot of different kinds of people and possibly the planet we live on. Thus, the botanist is one that works in the background to make the lives of people better in some way; careers in botany are therefore richly rewarding and fulfilling.

3. When to Consider the Botanist Career

You may not know why you should do this kind of career or seek careers in botany at all, but there are many reasons that come up. Beyond the enticing salary that accompanies careers in botany, you will find that a job as a botanist will give you a sense of well being, of self accomplishment, and will fulfill in you a way that few other careers can. The world is getting more full of people and that can change how our environment and how we can help to fix the damage that we may have caused. Botanists can also grow entire plants from just one cell, helping the earth get its plant population back to where it once was. This kind of method is also useful for finding ways to cure many of the diseases that we are plagued with.

Botanists also can use the chemicals in plants to help create new products. Plants already make things such as paper, fabrics, and many other products that we use everyday. When we find new ways to use plants we are also helping the environment that we live in as a whole. You may not think about it when you are using these items but you are helping to change the way that we live and use our planets raw materials. Finally, careers in botany also allow one to study how a plant works. They can help to protect them by understanding how they do what they do for the earth. This is especially true of the rain forest plant system which needs all the help it can get.

4. Who Can Be a Botanist?

There are many kinds of people that can do this kind of job, but it is more suited for the kind of person that likes the outdoors and is comfortable in many environments. If you enjoy the thought of camping in the woods and looking for plants that could help people then this is probably a good match for you.

A good way to figure out if this is something that you should consider for your career is by taking a few classes from your local college or your agriculture group in the area. These are good ways to experience how it works and if it’s something you can do. You can ask the high school agriculture department how to find these programs and how they work. Many times they will have a slight cost for the class, but it gives you the experience that you need to know what is right for you. If you are really thinking about this as a career, then you should really consider more then one of these classes if you are serious about learning these opportunities.
