Description: Brainerd will be holding a Multiple Sclerosis Walk on May 4. Registration will start at 10:00 a.m. Any persons can register at www.nationalmssociety.org. Participants raise money to be involved in the walk. A person can choose either a 1.5 or 3.5 mile route.

FIRST ANNUAL BOBBER HUNT

Description: The Pequot Lakes Retail Committee (Brainerd Lakes Chamber) is hosting the First Annual Bobber Hunt. Help Paul Bunyan hunt for his bobber so he can fish in the Governor’s Fishing Opener!Clues will be posted daily at participating businesses in Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point. The lucky winner will receive a gift basket of coupons (value of more than $350) redeemable at Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point businesses.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT STREET DRAGS

Description: For those who want to try their hand at legal drag racing, BIR offers you a chance to test yourself and your car on the same drag strip used by the world’s best drag racers during the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.
Here’s how it works: Anyone who shows up on the designated night with a street legal car (including trucks and motorcycles), a helmet and $20 can race on our track as many times as they want. You get use the light tree, the burn-out box and the scoreboard, which shows your elapsed time at the finish line. We even have an announcer calling the action.

60th ANNUAL MINNESOTA GOVERNOR'S FISHING OPENER

Description: The Brainerd Lakes Chamber and the Pequot Lakes/Breezy Point communities are host to the 60th Annual Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener on Pelican Lake in Breezy Point.
The Governor’s Fishing Opener has been a tradition in Minnesota since 1948. The event was designed to promote the development of Minnesota’s recreation industry. In recent years, the Opener has served as a celebration kickoff for the summer tourism season. It provides the community with an opportunity to highlight local fishing and other recreational activities, attractions and other points of interest. Weekend activities include a community picnic on Friday, May 9, 2008, and media events throughout the weekend.

HOOFIN' FOR H.A.R.T. COMPANION WALK

Location: Nisswa Community Center
Description: The annual Hoofin' It for HART companion walk will be held at 10 a.m., May 17, at the Nisswa Community Center. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with games from 9 a.m. Dog Olympics and radar run contests will be held before the walk. Animal related vendors will be at the event and demonstrations held.
The walk will be five miles long on the Paul Bunyan Trail. All dogs must be leashed and currently vaccinated.
Pledge forms will be available after April 1, at the area veterinary clinics, the HART shelter and on the Web site, www.hartpets.org.
All pledge money needs to be brought the day of the walk. Free coffee, juice and doughnuts will be available. Pizza, pop and water will be for sale following the walk. Team competition is a fun way to participate. Prizes will be awarded to individuals and teams who raise the most money. All money raised will be used for animal care. "Celebrate a Shelter Pet" T-shirts will also be for sale the day of the walk.

LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS RACE

Description: Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars take center stage during the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Points Race as they compete for valuable NHRA Division 5 points. This is your chance to see cars running at 250 mph as the top racers from the eight-state (and Canada) West Central Division battle for divisional and national championships. The event also includes drag racing in six other bracket-racing classes.
The Lucas Oil Points Race is ground-pounding, lightning-fast racing action that’s a can’t-miss event for drag racing fans or casual fans who want a taste of what the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals is all about. Like all BIR events, this one is excellent family entertainment for all ages.
