Broom Holder San Francisco CA

This broom holder is an easy project to make. With it, you can store any long-handled implement, such as a broom or shovel, on any wall you want. Gravity holds it in place, up off the ground, to protect the parts that do the work.

Steps

  1. Obtain a basic hinge with large plates on either side. You can get a new one or recycle one off of something else you dismantle. Either way, make sure there's plenty of space for a hole that's a bit bigger than the handle.
  2. Drill or punch a large hole in one plate. If you can't drill a hole that size or the metal is too thin, try a Greenlee punch or equivalent device. Make the hole bigger around than your handle.
  3. Cut off the end of the hinge, if you wish. If it's a large gate hinge with a long point, cut off the excess metal so that it does not protrude excessively.
  4. Screw the other plate of the hinge firmly onto the wall so that the plate with the hole in it swivels out.
  5. Hang the broom or other object by inserting it through the hole as shown. Let gravity hold the item in place.

Tips

  • Make several and hang them where you want to organize your cleaning or gardening tools. Place them far enough apart that the ends of the tools hang comfortably and don't interfere with one another when you select a tool from the group.

Warnings

  • Metal edges can be sharp. Carefully file them down and round out the corners.
