Burglar Alarms Self Installation For Your Home Security

Author: Andyj00

Carrying out your own DIY jobs can be one of the most satisfying and rewarding activities you can do. You take pride in your work knowing that you have completed the job all by yourself, without having to pay a tradesman – saving you a lot of cash. And self installing your own burglar alarm system is no exception.

If you are a keen do-it-yourself'er, and have not yet installed a home security system to your property then you really have no excuse. It is so important to protect your home from intruders because in today’s economic climate, more and more people are turning to crime as they simply cannot get work and need to live. Beware, because crime is on the increase. Knowing you and your family can go to bed at night and sleep sound is well worth installing a burglar alarm system for.

So what’s involved in self installing an alarm system? Well it depends on which type of alarm system you decide to purchase. It is worth knowing the differences before you go out and buy a system as the installation is very different for each type.

The two main types of burglar alarm system are hard wired and wireless. A hard wired system is a more permanent solution and will give many years of trouble free operation. But be aware a hard wired solution will take far longer to install and will cause far more disruption throughout your whole house whilst installation is taking place. A hard wired installation should really only be carried out by ambitious, experienced DIY'ers. It will generally involve channelling walls for cable runs as well as lifting floorboards and skirtings – it's a big job, so know what your taking on before you attempt it.

In contrast, installation of a wireless burglar alarm system is far more straightforward and most average DIY’ers should have no problem with a wireless installation. Simply install the control panel near to a mains socket to supply power to the unit then run a cable to the alarm siren/bell box. The wireless sensors then simply screw to the wall or screw to a door or window. There are no cables required at all from the sensors as they operate from batteries. This means unlike the hard wired system, installing additional wireless sensors a few weeks or months later is a breeze. So with a wireless home security system you can buy a simple starter kit and then add to it as your finances later allow.

So if you are ambitious and confident that you can undertake a large project such as a hard wired alarm installation then it is the most trouble free, resilient and is least likely to give false alarms. It will cost more as there will be materials to buy and possibly tools, if you don’t have them. On the other hand a wireless alarm installation these days is virtually as reliable as a hard wired system but is very straightforward to install and will take less time to have your new security system up and running, protecting your home and your family.
