Nishikikoi (commonly called Koi) are also called "dragon fish" in their native Japan. They are descended from carp just like goldfish, but you can't keep Koi in a bowl. Koi commonly grow to be three or four feet long, so they really need to be in a pond. Before you bring home any Koi, be sure to buy Koi supplies and have the pond ready for at least a month. In this way, the water quality will be stabile enough to support these colorful creatures.
Pond
This is the most important of Koi supplies you can buy. Hopefully, you already have a pond, but if you have a backyard, you can install a pond of almost any size with artificial pond bases you can find in any garden store. You need to have the pond near a water source, near an electrical outlet or solar panels and need to clear away any overhanging branches. Constant leaves or fruit falling into the water can ruin the water quality quickly.

Food
According to your Koi, this is the most important Koi supplies you can buy. Although the Koi will feed on stray insects that fall into the pond and on some of the algae, they mainly need a steady diet of nutritious sinking pellets. They also enjoy earthworms and small fresh but washed vegetables.
