Journey

Journey's 1981 release, Captured, captures the band's live performances from their1980 Infinity tour. Recorded around the world, from the UnitedStates, West Germany, and Japan, this live album does a fine job inrecording the band's popular songs and other tunes that Journeyfans may not have heard regularly on their radios.

Some of the blending of two songs together works fine here. Like"Just The Same Way/Line Of Fire" and "Lights/Stay Awhile". Mostlive albums feature the most common songs, and the ones you're notfamiliar with do have their moments, but the more famous tunes arethe ones that stand out on this album. Unfortunately, as in thecase of "Lights" and "Feeling That Way," the live versions are alittle bit faster than the studio versions. This may be unsuitablefor some, but this is a live album, and many bands experiment withtheir famous tunes in a different way, whenever possible. Like atthe end of "Anytime," they changed pace of the beat of the song, giving it a different mood, and quite frankly, it's a nice changeof pace.

"Do You Recall," originally from Evolution, is a fine tune. Another one, "Dixie Highway," asong unheard from any previous Journey album, is ok. Originallyfrom Departure, "Walk Like A Lady" is bluesy, as Steve Perry asksthe audience, "Do you want some blues?" This tune is a great one,as it features the organ and great guitar works from a band thatoriginally was formed from the group Santana, long before StevePerry joined the band and redefined Journey's Santana sound into asuccessful pop rock band.

At the end of this tune, it seems that the guitarist is doinghis best solo, Eddie Van Halen style, and it blends into the nextsong, "La Do Da," which was originally from their Infinity album. This live version showcases the instrumentalside of the band, and of course, if you've been to any concert, thedrummer gets to struts his stuff, in performing a (Lord knows howlong of a) drum solo.
