To choose the best ceiling fan for a room, you must first determine the size of the room. This is important to know which size fan to pick out. Generally you use a 42' fan for a bedroom, office, or shop. The sizes go up the bigger the room.
Where you purchase the fan DOES make a difference. Department stores carry cheaper ceiling fans that work well, versus hardware stores that carry the higher end, better model fans that basically work as good as the amount of money you put into them.
With department store fans, you won't have many options as to what they look like, or any kind of customization. But with hardware stores, they usually carry different styles and some let you customize a ceiling fan to fit the theme in the room.
Figure out how you're going to mount this fan. If you're going to put it in a room where you cannot hook it to a light switch, you might want to think of purchasing a remote controlled ceiling fan, because it would be impossible to wire it without a light switch in the room itself.
If you're interested in added light, because you are mounting in a room with no lights, make sure to grab a ceiling fan that has a light fixture included. This will give your room light, without having to do extra wiring to add a light fixture.
The size of the ceiling fan you choose determines the noise it lets off. If you choose a bigger fan for a smaller room, you'll have more noise. So be sure, if you purchase a bigger fan, you're putting it in a bigger room. Another thing - depending on size, you can make a room look crowded, so it is important to choose the right size for your room.
You need to consider the electrical aspects of installing a ceiling fan. Be sure that your circuit can handle it, so that you do not cause any electrical damage. Also, ask a professional if your ceiling can handle the weight of the fan.
You need to make sure that the height of your ceiling is enough to mount a ceiling fan. You need to install the ceiling fan 7 feet above the ground, at least, or... well, you can imagine the consequences!
