There is one piece of equipment that is often overlooked by golfers... shoes. If you are not wearing a pair of comfortable shoes when playing it does not matter how good you are. The pain from the blisters on your feet will be hard to overcome mentally. And golf is a mental game.

Choosing the right pair of golf shoes for you actually only depends on two things. The first is how the golf shoe actually fits you. The second is your budget for buying a pair of golf shoes. But there are several tips that can be used to help your search along.

First is fit. One way to determine fit is to simply try the shoes on and to walk around. When you try on the shoes, make sure you are wearing a pair of socks that will be like the ones you play in. Walk around to see if the shoes rub or pinch. And if possible take a few practice swings, even if you don't have a club in your hands. Another tip is to bend over as if you were placing a tee in the ground or picking a ball up out of the cup. Again, take note if the shoes rub or pinch. If there is a slight discomfort felt in the store, try imagining that over eighteen holes.

Another consideration in picking out a great pair of golf shoes is to look at style and materials. Today the golf shoe has emerged from the hard leather uncomfortable shoes of the past. Now golfers can choose from stylish traditional looks and shoes that resemble comfortable tennis shoes or even sandals. One determining factor may be the rules where you play. Many courses restrict the use of open toe golf sandals. A rule of thumb is that if you feel comfortable in dress-style shoes on any given day, then that may be the route to take when looking for your golf shoes. If you lean towards comfort in tennis or walking style shoes, then that may be the way to go.

When it comes right down to it your budget may be the determining factor. Set your budget, start shopping and see what you can find on sale. You can also look for bargain prices on the internet but remember, the main part of picking out the perfect golf shoe for you is determined by fit. You can't try shoes on when you are online.
