In accordance with Kirby Bauer's turbidimetric-vaccinal method, a method recommended by the World Health Organization, 11 different bacteria were diluted into 1.5-1.6 hundred-million bacteria/ml, and inoculated in Chuan Shan Jia decoction and common broth bouillon. The results showed that the 11 bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, etc., could not grow in the Chuan Shan Jia decoction medium but grew well in broth bouillon. In the control group, there were no bacteria growing in either Chuan Shan Jia decoction and common broth bouillon. The experiment indicates that Chuan Shan Jia has an inhibitory action on bacteria.( 2)
An experiment was set up to study the effect of adding Chuan Shan Jia solution to a perfusate on the function of the isolated rat heart: Venous blood samples were drawn from 15 coronary heart disease patients and made into two plasma samples, one with high platelet concentration and the other with low platelet concentration. Each sample was further divided into 3 parts to prepare for three sample groups: an experiment group (treated with Chuan Shan Jia solution), a comparison group (treated with aspirin), and a control group (with nothing added). ADP was used to induce platelet aggregation. The results showed that the experiment group had significantly higher LVSP, +dp/dtmax and CO readings (while -dp/dtmax, LVEDP and CF readings showing no significant changes), and that both the experiment and comparison groups had a significantly lower platelet aggregation rate than the control group. These results suggest that Chuan Shan Jia can enhance myocardial systolic function (positive inotropic action) and can significantly inhibit platelet aggregation.( 3)
