The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is an efficient airport, in terms of the operations of flights, because of the makeup of the terminal/remote concourses and the triple takeoff capabilities for both landing and taking off. The airport is the third largest hub of Delta airlines in the United States. The airport offers passengers over 700 daily flights to 130 destinations around the world. Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is about 13 miles southwest of Cincinnati, adjacent to the Ohio River. Since “Simplifares” was introduced in 2005, there has been a 25% increase in the number of passengers. Simplifares is a system designed to make pricing and finding flights easier for travelers. There is talk of further expansion of the airport, for adding both new terminals and more runways. Currently, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport sees almost 22 million passengers every year.

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has three terminals. As of January 16, 2007, Terminal 1 was temporarily closed down and is being used by various airport administration offices. Terminal 3 is used solely by Delta airlines and Delta airlines affiliates, and it has remote concourses that were constructed by Delta for their use. Terminal 3 is interconnected by an underground tram system, as well as by buses. The only terminal in the airport that has customs offices is Terminal 3. Terminal 1 is served by domestic airlines and has gates 1 -9. Terminal 2 is also served by domestic airlines and has gates 1-8. Terminal 3 is the biggest terminal in the airport and serves both domestic and international flights. There are three concourse areas in Terminal 3, which are A, B, and C. Concourse A has gates A1 – A23, Concourse B has gates B1 – B28, and Concourse C, the largest concourse, has gates C1-C79.

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is about a 30-minute drive to Cincinnati’s city center. The actual airport is located in the suburbs of Cincinnati. There are many roads and main highways you can take to get to the airport traveling from any direction. Cincinnati can become congested with traffic in the morning and late afternoon rush hours so make sure to allow enough time to get to the airport during these times of the day. Some of the main highways that are near the airport are the Donaldson Highway, I-275, I-71, and I-75. The airport is not difficult to get to, and there are many signs on the roads and highways leading to the airport.

From the city center of Cincinnati, drive along the I-71 Interstate going south and then join the I-275 Interstate. Follow the signs to the terminals that can be reached by Donaldson Highway.

From the suburbs of Cincinnati, I-275 Interstate goes around the outside of the city and gives you direct access to the airport. Drive on the I-275 and take the Junction 4 exit, staying on the US-212 State Highway following the signs directly to the airport.

From the north, drive south on either the I -75 or I -71 Interstates and merge to the circular freeway I-275 heading west. Take the Junction 4 exit, drive towards 212 State Highway, and follow the signs directly to the airport.

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has many travel options to get to and from the airport. The travel options include buses, taxis, rental cars, limousines, and shuttle buses.

Bus Travel

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has public buses available that travel to Cincinnati and the surrounding areas. The JetPort Express shuttle is the main bus service, as it travels from the terminal to and from Cincinnati and surrounding areas. The JetPort Express runs every half hour and operates from 6 AM to 10 PM. There are also TANK buses available that make the trip form Cincinnati to Covington and run daily from 5 AM to midnight. The bus services are the most inexpensive way to travel to and from the airport. Many of the bus stops for Cincinnati are located at the roadway of Terminal 1, as well as near the Baggage Claim area of Terminal 3. You can get bus route and bus schedule information at the Ground Transportation Information desks that are located in each terminal near the Baggage Claim areas.

Airport Shuttle Buses

There are shuttle bus travel options at the airport as well. Many of these shuttle buses travel to and from Cincinnati and the surrounding areas. Many of the shuttle buses are from the hotels and are free of charge. Check with the hotel you are staying at to see if they have courtesy shuttle buses to and from the airport. The shuttle buses operate outside the terminals near the Baggage Claim areas.

Taxi Services

There are many taxis available at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Taxis can be one of the easier ways to travel to and from the airport. The taxis can take you to Cincinnati, as well as the surrounding areas. The CVG taxis can be requested beforehand by calling them on the courtesy telephones that are located in the Baggage Claim areas. There are also several taxi desks located near the terminal exits. It is recommended that you use the official CVG taxis to make sure you have a safe journey and that you are not overcharged. Airport taxis are in operation 24 hours a day. Many of the taxis have set fees, but there are sometimes extra charges for luggage, driving late at night, and for driving on holidays. It is recommended that you get the fare for your journey from the taxi driver before departing so there are no misunderstandings. Many of the taxis at the airport will accept credit cards. Check with the driver beforehand to find out if they accept credit cards.

There are many facilities and services available at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. These include information desks, business services, banking facilities, currency exchange desks, and conference facilities.

The information desks at the airport are near the entrances of Terminal 3, in both Concourse B and C. The airport information desks can give you information about the airport itself and directions to other destinations. If you are a tourist and do not know the area, the airport information desks can help by giving you tourist information about Cincinnati and the surrounding areas.

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has currency exchange desks, communications facilities, and banking facilities. There are many ATM machines located throughout the terminals at the airport. For exchanging currency, Terminal 3, where many of the international flights leave and arrive from, has a bureau de change machine. There is a fully functional bank located in Terminal 2, operating Monday –Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Terminal 2 also has postal service fax machines available.

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has many facilities for the business traveler. Some of these facilities are separate work areas that allow for privacy, computer workstations with fast speed Internet capabilities, fax machines, telephone service, and photocopy machines. There are hearing impaired telephones, lifts, and elevators for wheelchair users, and many ramps located all around each terminal building. Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has many shopping and eating facilities located throughout each terminal of the airport. For eating and drinking, there are many choices such as fast food, cafes, bars, and restaurants. There are also many vending machines and newsstands around the airport where you can buy snacks. Some of the eating and drinking establishments include the Bluegrass Brewing Co., two McDonald’s, Outback Steakhouse, Wetzel's Pretzels, The Pub, Samuel Adams Celebrates Cincinnati, and Quiznos Sub. For a cup of java, there are also three Starbucks locations and two Peet’s Coffee & Tea locations.

The airport has many shopping facilities from newsstands to retail shops. The shops are located throughout the airport. The duty-free shops are located in Terminal 3. There are also many small shops that sell souvenirs. Just a few of the shopping choices are Brooks Brothers, InMotion Entertainment, Brookstone, 24-Hour Flower, Sunglass Hut, and Spirit of the Red Horse Native American gifts.

There is plenty of parking available at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. You can pay for parking with cash, credit cards, or checks. There is also the possibility for the drop off and collection of passengers on the roadway near the front of the airport’s terminals.

The short-term parking areas are located opposite the terminals at the airport. The short-term parking areas are mainly used for the drop off and collection of passengers. Just past the Radisson Hotel, there are three short-term parking areas for Terminals 1-3. The long-term parking areas at the airport are located near the terminals and adjacent to Highway 212. This makes long-term parking convenient, as Highway 212 is the main access road to the airport. The well-posted areas have free shuttles that run to and from the entrances of the terminals and the long-term parking areas. There are many reserved spaces for disabled passengers that have the relevant permits. These disabled parking spaces are available at all the parking areas at the airport.

There are many hotels that are located near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. These airport hotels are useful for people that are traveling for business, searching for inexpensive accommodations, or people that have flights early in the morning. Many of the hotels that are located near the airport have courtesy shuttles that travel to and from the airport and hotel. Check beforehand with the hotel if they have a courtesy shuttle available. The hotels that are located within five miles of the airport are Cincinnati Airport Marriott, Hampton Inn Cincinnati Airport CVG North, Baymont Inn and Suites, Courtyard Cincinnati Airport, Holiday Inn Cincinnati Airport, Radisson Hotel, and Econo Lodge Erlanger. The Radisson Hotel is one of the more popular hotels for business travelers, as it has a grand ballroom, six small meeting rooms, and many other business facilities.

Many of the hotels located in Cincinnati are in the districts of downtown, Coryville, Hyde Park, and Mount Adams. The downtown district has many types of accommodations from budget hotels to 5 star luxury hotels. The downtown district has numerous bars and restaurants, as well as shopping possibilities. Downtown Cincinnati is known for its live music scene, as there are many clubs and music venues in the area. Just north of the downtown district is the Coryville district, which offers the most inexpensive accommodations in the city. The Coryville district is where the University of Cincinnati is located. Besides the inexpensive accommodations, there are also many inexpensive places to eat and drink. Many of the luxury, upscale accommodations are located in the Hyde Park district. The area surrounding Hyde Park Square also has many accommodation options at reasonable prices. To the east of downtown Cincinnati is the Mount Adams District, referred to as “The Hill.” Many of the accommodations options in the Mount Adams district provide great views of Cincinnati and the Ohio River.
