One needs to consider various things when planning to give corporate gifts. Corporate gifts can be given to important clients, performing employees and loyal customers. One needs to be very careful when giving out corporate gifts as it is a question of company’s reputation. A wrong selection or a poor quality of corporate gift is not only a financial burden but has far more serious repercussions.

There are certain guidelines that can help the company to make the best out of corporate gift giving. These guidelines are simple and easy to follow and guides well on how to use promotional products to the best.

Guidelines When Gifting Promotional Products

Determine an Objective: When a company decides to incur any expenditure, it does so in order to achieve an objective. Though gifting promotional items is quite affordable as compared to other advertising strategies, it does involve a cost. One needs to ensure that the cost of distribution of corporate gifts meets the benefits arising out of it.

In order to do so, one must determine the objective of going ahead with this exercise. The objectives can be many. It can be to thank a loyal customer, encouraging a performing employee, creating brand awareness or strengthening client relationship. Whatever the objective is, one must ensure that the gift selection is such that it meets the objective well.

Determine the Recipient: Choosing the right promotional gift depends a lot on the recipient. An employee should not be given the same kind of gift as given to customers. Similarly, an important client cannot be gifted what an employee gets. So, one must determine the recipient of the gift for a right selection.

This is not all. Number of recipients also makes a huge difference. If you want to honor handful of employees then something like promotional MP3 players can be gifted. On the other hand, if you want to award number of loyal customers then generally one chooses promotional items such as t-shirts, mugs, CDs, etc.

Don’t Exceed the Budget: Now that the objective and the recipients are determined, the next thing is budget allocation. Allocate a budget to the activity and make sure that you don’t exceed your budget. In case you end up exceeding the budget by leaps and bounds, the whole activity will be futile as costs will be more than the benefits.

Plan your corporate gifts in such a way that they meet the objective and the budget. One should not compromise with the quality of the gift since corporate gifts are double edged swords. A poor quality gift can render harm to the reputation of the company. Make an extensive search of the companies who are engaged in the business of promotional products and have a wide variety of gifts to offer.

Corporate gifting is an art. It works both ways, and hence, one needs to be very careful about the selection of corporate gifts.
