With all sorts of desktop publishing options these days, many smaller businesses are jumping on the bandwagon by designing and printing their own customized Christmas or holiday season cards rather than purchasing a bulk-produced card. If your business would like to try this approach, here are a few tips to help you in the process.

  1. Buy some software. Software packages that will help you design all sorts of cards are available at very reasonable prices. The packages often come with impressive selections in graphics and images, so you will have a lot of resources to work with. Another great thing about these software packages is that the instructions take you through each step of the process. Often you can view your progress at any given point, and easily back up one step if you try something and don't like the look. Having your own software also means that you can save multiple templates of cards to use. This can be especially helpful if your client base is diverse, and you want to create a series of holiday cards that relate to the various industries represented among your customers.
  2. Read the instructions. One of the undeniable facts about human nature is that we tend to jump in and try to learn as we go. Sometimes that is not the best approach, especially if you are the type who gets upset when things are not perfect the first time. After you load your software, make sure you go through the tutorial that comes as part of the package. Learn how you need to position the card stock in your printer, how to easily flip from outside to inside the card, how to import images that did not come with your software, and how to see a preview of your card before you print. The time spent in familiarizing yourself with the software will help keep your blood pressure under control, as well as move your project along with minimum hassle....
