2. The importance of criminal defense

3. Understanding Criminal Law

Criminal lawyers just have to prove that the evidence presented by the prosecutor is not sufficient to convict a person.

Since lawyers are bestowed with the responsibility to uphold the law of the state, they have the moral duty of ensuring that a person is not punished for a crime he hasn’t committed. People often have the impression that a criminal defense lawyer’s only role is to protect the defendant by representing him/her in the courtroom. However, criminal lawyers are specialists in criminal law and while representing a client, they make sure that the client also understands the law in its entirety. For instance, they advise their clients about when to plead innocence. The decision is taken after they analyze the situation the defendant is in and based on their understanding of the nuances of the case. Over a period of time, experienced criminal defense attorneys learn the art of convincing the judge, the prosecutor, as well as the people present in the courtroom about the innocence of their defendant. Criminal defense lawyers also have an understanding of how to use the loopholes in certain laws to their advantage. In doing so, they can create opportunities to win a case when, at the outset, the case appears complicated.
