When you have obtained a degree in culinary arts, you have opened the door to a world of different career options. Whether you are type of person who enjoys being around people, or someone who prefers to work alone, there are jobs that will fit your skill set and your personality. Here are some examples of positions that anyone with a solid culinary education should consider.

  1. For many students of culinary arts, becoming a chef is the ultimate goal. While many prefer the creative side of cooking, it is important to remember that being a premier chef involves the ability to manage a kitchen effectively, have an excellent work ethic, and be very detail-oriented. One should also remember that there might be many chefs associated with a kitchen. If you prefer to specialize, you may do well as a pastry chef. An executive or head chef would have ultimate authority in the kitchen. As such, she would need to possess the ability to stay calm under pressure and deal with the numerous small details that occur almost every moment of the workday. If you meet these criteria, applying your degree in the role of a chef will be ideal.

  2. Perhaps you are more interested in the business side of the food industry. If this is the case, you may want to pursue a career as a restaurant manager or a hospitality manager. Both of these positions allow you to have a great deal of input on the quality and type of food that is served in your establishment, where the ingredients are obtained, and the atmosphere in which the meals are served. In addition to the business aspects, these careers also allow you the opportunity to interact with the clientèle, which will be very rewarding if you happen to be a people person.
