Wiring outlets and light fixtures can be a dangerous and take a significant amount of time and energy but with proper care and using safety equipment you can complete the task without much trouble.  You should always ensure that any electrical wiring you complete is in line with building codes and that it has been connected properly.

Installing an Light Switch
Before you begin to install your light switch you need to ensure that you have disable the power to that section of your home.  Forgetting to complete this step can cause serious damage to your home and can result in life threatening risks.  The first step to installing an outlet is to connect the base ground wire to your outlet box and severe the wire leaving about 1 inch of wire to work with.  Next you will want to connect the black and white wires to opposite screws located on the box.  Now you will need to join the black wires from the switch to the one that originates from the light using a splice.  The white wire will need to be connected to the black wire that protrudes from the breaker switch.

Installing a Ceiling Light Fixture
Installing a light fixture to the ceiling isn't a complicated task but it is one that should be treated with care as an improper job on the ceiling will show the marks of poor craftsmanship.  You need to ensure that you measure carefully where you intend to put the new fixture so that you do not end up with any unsightly gaps when you have finished attaching the light fixture.  Using a utility knife you will need to cut a hole into the ceiling that matches the dimensions of the measurements you just finished taking.
Next you will need to attach the wiring box into the hole you just cut into the ceiling.  The easiest way to accomplish this is to use standard nails and hammer the box directly into the joists located inside the hole in the ceiling.  You will need to use a hanging bar to increase the security of the light fixture to ensure that it doesn't move.  Now it is time to connect the cables from the light fixture to the wiring box you hammered into the ceiling.  It is important that you have the power turned off when you are connecting the cables.  Now that the cables are all receiving power you can move onto installing the light fixture.  Once the cables have been properly attached you will need to screw the light fixture firmly into place.

The light fixture is easily installed by using the locknuts and straps that are provided when you purchase the light fixture.  You should always check with your local building inspector before you install light fixtures to ensure that you are complying with the laws and that everything in your home is up to code.

When you are attempting any type of electrical projects you need to ensure you are following all the instructions the packaging presents and that you wear ample safety equipment.
