Dermatology is known as the study of investigating and diagnosing skin diseases of different kinds. Dermatology is finding the right treatment for these skin diseases and helping out with their prevention. A dermatologist is a doctor who has a degree in dermatology. Dermatologists can be referred to as skin care doctors or skin specialists. Dermatologists help to figure out all the problems we have with our skin. They specialize in taking care of our skin, as well as preventing and treating a large variety of other skin conditions that you may have. Some of the skin diseases they treat are skin cancer, warts, acne, skin rashes, fungal infections, psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema, just to mention a few. All these skin diseases require the proper care, medications, and procedures. Dermatology is very important in treating all types of skin diseases that can affect people of all ages. A dermatologist not only detects skin diseases, but they can also help solve problems with your hair and nails. Whatever the reason you have for seeing a dermatologist, he or she can help diagnose your problem and give you the proper treatment you will need.
Acne is a skin condition that most people will get at one point in their life. It can affect people of all ages, but will usually start affecting people during their adolescent years. Acne can be caused by many different conditions. Your hormones can play a big role in getting acne, and androgens stimulate hormone glands that produce oil also known as sebum. Sebum in turn can cause acne by producing pimples and blackheads. People can get acne all over their body, although it usually appears more on the face. If you have mild acne, it can probably be managed by just washing your face with a mild soap and by using an over the counter medication such as benzoyl peroxide. Some people will end up getting acne worse then others for a number of reasons. When people have severe cases of acne, they should think about going to see a dermatologist. If you are getting acne scars and constantly fighting your acne with no success, you may need to see a skin specialist such as a dermatologist. Dermatologists have a large variety of medications they can offer you. A dermatologist also will have certain medical procedures available to you if needed, helping you get back to having great skin again.
There are three different types of skin cancer that account for most all diagnosed cases today, and they are divided into two different classes - non melanoma and melanoma. Melanoma is considered the deadliest form of skin cancer we can get. The three types of skin cancers that most people get are Basal cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma, and Melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer, and is usually caused by long term exposure to the sun. Dermatologists would like people to get early diagnosis and treatment to prevent more damage to the tissue that surrounds the problem area. Skin diseases can be serious at times, and it is a good idea to see your doctor if you have any kind of irregular skin problems. Staying out of the sun is your best prevention against getting skin cancer, as well as using the proper sun protection like sunscreen, and wearing protective clothing outdoors can help. Dermatologists encourage people to learn how to recognize the signs of skin cancer, and get regular checkups for their skin. Skin cancer can be very curable if there is early detection and the proper treatment is followed.
