Bridge House was started in 1957 when a group of alcoholics trying to recover realized that alcoholics and addicts living on the street had little chance for recovery. It has transitioned over the years from being strictly a shelter for the homeless and addicted to becoming a long-term intensive alcohol and drug addiction treatment center. Bridge House offers professional counseling on par with some of the finest substance abuse treatment facilities in the country to those members of the community who have lost the ability to obtain treatment and stable housing on their own.

About 75% of our operating budget is derived from our internal funding sources: two thrift stores, used car lot, major fundraising events, annual mail-outs, various foundations and individual donors. The remaining amount comes from city, state, and federal funding sources.

Odyssey House Louisiana (OHL) is a nonprofit behavioral health care provider with an emphasis on addiction treatment.

OHL was established in 1973 as a nonprofit residential substance abuse treatment facility with the mission of empowering people to conquer addiction. Today, Odyssey House offers a professional, structured and caring Therapeutic Community with comprehensive services and effective support systems that enable individuals to chart new lives and return to their communities as contributing members.

In the post-Katrina era of rebuilding New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast, OHL has expanded its historical mission, as well as its staff and services, to bring much-needed aid to the community.

Odyssey House Louisiana puts research and proven approaches into practice to provide comprehensive services to people affected by substance abuse, and is nationally recognized as a model treatment program. In collaboration with other community resources, OHL’s holistic services facilitate the healing process of addiction recovery and help individuals to start anew and build healthy lives. Equipped with new skills for living and working, and assisted with employment and housing, OHL program graduates return to their communities ready to assume responsibility for themselves and others.

It is OHL's philosophy to treat the whole person, not just the addiction. OHL’s holistic approach addresses the physical, mental, emotional and social conditions of each client in treating the illness of addiction. Services and programs include substance abuse treatment, complete health and mental health care, life-skills training, vocational training, individual and group counseling, parenting classes and childcare, case management and housing placement.

We understand that while addiction may exhibit similar signs and symptoms within a group, each patient's experience with drugs and alcohol is different. Mental health disorders including ADHD, anxiety, depression, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other psychiatric diagnoses must be treated concurrently with substance abuse to achieve optimal results. The "one size fits all approach" does not work. Therefore, our programs are personalized to meet patients where they are in their addiction and planned with the highest regard for the needs of patients and their families.
