2 . Digital Shredder 4 Premium Introduction

Migo Digital Shredder 4 Premium is the key to a really clean computer. Migo Digital Shredder 4 Premium includes a number of functions designed to help you protect you and your computer by permanently removing unwanted data, including:

• Leftover traces of your Internet activity.
• Records of your activity in Windows and Microsoft Office applications
• Any other data you want to be really sure is deleted

Migo Digital Shredder 4 Premium allows you to remove various types of data from your computer including traces and records of Internet and other activity, downloaded files, or any other data you choose. Data removed by Migo Digital Shredder 4 Premium cannot ever be recovered (in most cases).

Dragging files to the Recycle Bin and then emptying the Recycle Bin it is not enough. Merely deleting a file usually does not physically remove data from your hard disk. Software exists (such as Migo Digital Rescue 4 Premium) that can easily retrieve files that you thought were safely deleted, even if you reformat your hard drive. And it is even possible, using exotic equipment, to disassemble a computer and recover
data that was "securely" deleted.

Migo Digital Shredder 4 Premium is the next step beyond just deleting your files. It not only removes files but also locates their data on the disk and overwrites it. This is the ultimate in safety, since no one can recover data that no longer exists. Migo Digital Shredder 4 Premium offers a number of options, from Quick, which overwrites data one time, to DOD standard (3 times), and even more (up to 200 times are
possible.)

3 . The Shred Center Page

When Migo Digital Shredder 4 Premium starts, you should see the Shred Center page. Here you can choose to securely delete files and folders. You may "drag and drop" files to be shredded to the window or choose Browse to browse to files and folders. When you have made all your selections, click the Shred Now button and the files and folders in the list will be permanently deleted according to the settings specified on the Advanced tab of the Settings page.

WARNING: shredded files can never be recovered. If you shred important data, it is gone forever. It is also possible to crash your computer or render it unbootable by removing needed files. Never shred anything if you do not understand what it does.

• When shredding solid state media (such as USB Pen Drives), there is no advantage to using more than one pass (and excessive shredding) may
shorten the life of the device.
• Shredding floppy disks is supported but is an extremely lengthy process. Physical destruction of floppy disks is generally the most practical
method.
• Shredding the contents of an entire drive is supported but is usually not the best way to proceed. Attempting to shred the drive containing
Windows, for example, will certainly fail and may cause your computer to become unbootable. In most cases, it is better to simply do the
following:

1. Delete the files you want to remove.
2. Empty the Recycle Bin.
3. Shred free space on the affected drive.

4 . The System Cleaner Page

The System Cleaner page contains controls for cleaning unwanted information from your computer. To access this page, click the System Cleaner page if it is not. To perform a system cleaning, check items from the list to include (see the System Cleaner page for more information: some cleaning items are not available with all versions of the program) and click Clean System.

You can click Schedule This Job to create a schedule for running System Clean automatically (see The Schedule Cleaning page for more information). You can also click Save This Job to save your selection of items to include in the cleaning. You may also specify the job to be loaded by default by clicking Save Default from the Save This Job window.

Most of this page is filled by the list of data to be removed. It is organized as a Windows Explorer-style tree. Checking the box for an item marks it for cleaning; you can also check the box for a top-level folder (Windows, Internet, Microsoft Office) to quickly check or uncheck every item in it.
