Among the active components of Dong Gua Zi are substances containing large molecular compounds such as neutral sugar and aldonic acid, which have the activities of promoting mitosis, and of activating PBA and adjuvant activity. It is inferred that the active components of Dong Gua Zi take part in the non-specific defense function of the host body.( 2)
Research has isolated Dong Gua Zi components that have an inhibitory effect on trypsin. Two of the four components are small molecular trypsin-inhibitors.( 3)
