ADAMS FAMILY HONORED AT ANNUAL GALA
The Adams Family of Adams Fairacre Farms to be honored at Chamber’s Annual Gala The Adams family of Adams Fairacre Farms will be honored at the Grandview on February 2 at the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2008 Annual Gala: Jewels of the Hudson Valley. The desicion to honor the Adams family was made in keeping with this year’s theme, as the Adams family is one of the jewels that shine brightly in our community. Adams Fairacre Farms has been active in our area since Ralph Adams began his roadside farm stand in the 1920s. It became a small retail store and garden center in 1960. Adams is still a family-owned and operated business, but it now boasts outstanding customer service, diversified products, 700 employees and three locations: Route 9W in Kingston, Route 300 in Newburgh and Route 44 in Poughkeepsie. Adams offers full-service departments including produce, meat, seafood, deli, prepared foods, cheese, bakery, sweet shop, gourmet grocery, gift shop, garden center and nursery, power equipment, fences and landscaping. The Adams family is also committed to serving the greater community. “Adams Fairacre Farms epitomizes the fine of example of what local business is all about. They hire local people and give back to the community and they have done that since their inception,” said Charles S. North, president and CEO of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce. Adams Fairacre Farms never turns away an opportunity to give to a local non-profit organization or school. Adams is also a flexible employer, which allows high school and college students to maintain a job while being able to fully participate in academics and extracurricular activities. Employees of Adams serve on the boards of several organizations including Vassar Brothers Medical Center, The Astor Home for Children, the Mid-Hudson Civic Center and the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce. Health Quest is the Platinum Sponsor of the 2008 Annual Gala.

GO RED FOR WOMEN TO FIGHT HEART DISEASE

Why did the American Heart Association choose the color red for their campaign “Go Red” to fight the No. 1 killer of American women? Is it because red is the most emotionally intense color, and red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing, therefore motivating us in the war against this silent killer? Or, is it that in color therapy red stimulates brain wave activity, allowing us to be more cognizant about heart health? Perhaps it is because red is the color that we pay the most attention to and will make us take notice that there is a killer lurking in our midst.
According to the American Heart Association, many women believe that cancer is more of a threat, but they're wrong. Nearly twice as many women in the United States die of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases as from all forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
Join the The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s annual Go Red for Women Business After Hours event that will be held on February 5, 2008, at River Station in Poughkeepsie from 5 – 7:30 p.m. (The regular Business After Hours will be held on February 28, 2008, at Adams Fairacre Farms from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m.) Since February 2004, the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign has evolved into a national movement that is committed to arming women with the knowledge and tools to fight heart disease and reminding women of the power and energy that they have to band together and live heart-healthy lives. One in three women has cardiovascular disease and not only is it the No.1 killer of American women, it is a leading killer of American men, too.
“It is important to continue supporting this movement because knowledge is power. The more information and awareness we have about this disease, the better chance women – and men – have to conquer it,” said Charles S. North, president and CEO of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The sponsor for this year’s Go Red for Women Business After Hours is Rhinebeck Savings Bank. To make a reservation, please call the Chamber at 845-454-1700 x 1000 or visit www.dutchesscountyregionalchamber.org. For more information on Go Red for Women, please visit www.goredforwomen.org.
