Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a privately held car rental company that is engaged in vehicle leasing, fleet management services and the sale of used cars. The company primarily operates in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, and Germany but is headquartered in St Louis, Missouri with about 64,500 employees.
Enterprise is the largest rental car company in the US and particularly specializes in renting to people who need a temporary replacement car or a vehicle for a special occasion. The company’s principal activities involve renting and leasing vehicles, managing fleets for other companies, and selling used cars and trucks. The company serves commercial enterprise and also individual customers. Enterprise operates through five divisions: Rent-A-Car, Canadian operations, European operations, Fleet services, Car sales and Rent-A-Truck.
In the late 1990s, Enterprise Rent-A-Car began expanding its operations to include the airport market, and now serves airports in the United States, Canada, the UK and Ireland. The main television advertising campaign for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the airport market shows a car wrapped in brown paper, and features the slogan “Pick Enterprise, We’ll pick you up!” Enterprise has become famous for their services in which employees or staff members pick up customers and bring them to the rental office.
Enterprise will rent to all qualifying individuals over 18 years of age, typically without an additional fee for replacement rentals. Most locations charge an underage fee for retail renters.
The company works day-to-day under a very simple mission statement, which promotes customer as well as employee satisfaction along with friendly and convenient services. The mission is to fulfill the automotive and commercial truck rental, leasing, car sales and related needs of all Enterprise customers and, in doing so, exceed their expectations for service, quality and value. Enterprise strives to earn their customers' long-term loyalty by working to deliver above and beyond what has been promised, which includes being completely honest and fair and "going the extra mile" to provide exceptional personalized service that creates a pleasing business experience.
Enterprise also motivates its employees to provide exceptional service to its customers by supporting their development, providing personal growth opportunities and fairly compensating them for their successes and achievements. For Enterprise, it is critical to the company’s success to promote managers from within who will serve as examples of success for other employees to follow.
It is the company’s goal to be the best but not necessarily the biggest or the most profitable because Enterprise’s success at satisfying customers and motivating employees will bring growth and long-term profitability in itself.
The Enterprise car rental business began in 1957 as a leasing business in the basement of a Midwest car dealership. The business founder, Jack Taylor, looked around his small office and saw a handful of co-workers fielding phone calls, calculating rates and prepping cars. He saw people doing ordinary, everyday things with extraordinary passion and focus and people willing to go well beyond their own jobs to get the whole job done right. He saw people who believed in his personal vision and made it their own. Thus, the foundation was laid – superior customer service – for what would become the largest car rental company in North America.
Some cars offered by Enterprise Rent-A-Car includes the Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris, Ford Focus, Dodge Calliber, Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3, Mitsubishi Galant, Ford Fusion, Dodge Charger, Mercury Milan, Nissan Quest, Buick Terraza, Toyota Tundra, Lincoln Navigator, Jeep Commander, Chevrolet Equinox, Honda CRV, Lexus RX330, Suzuki XL7, Hummer H3, GMC Yukon, plus many others.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car has also established an award program to acknowledge excellence in corporate social responsibility in its 78 independent operating groups throughout the world. The Jack Taylor Founding Values Award honors the regional groups that exemplify excellence in living the values that were set in motion 50 ago by the award's namesake and Enterprise's founder, Jack Taylor. Winners receive a grant from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation, which they can use to advance qualified nonprofit causes in their local communities.
