| Pharmacology |
Administered by intramuscular injection daily at the dosage of 5.6g/kg for ten days, n-butyl alcohol-based extract of Fang Feng can lower both the high and low shearing specific viscosity of total blood, plasma viscosity, fibrinogen content, hematocrit and total blood reduced viscosity but has no effect on blood sedimentation (BS), K value of BS equation, maximal platelet aggregation rate, and one-minute depolymerization rate. This suggests that n-butyl alcohol-based extract of Fang Feng can promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis.( 3)
Experiments show that administered to mice, Fang Feng polysaccharide has the following effects: 1) inhibiting S180 growth, with a solid tumor-inhibiting rate of 52.92%; 2) notably raising the phagocytic activity of intraperitoneal macrophages (Mo) of S180 tumor immune mice (P<0.01); and 3) enhancing the antineoplastic activity in mixed inoculation of intraperitoneal Mo of S180 tumor immune mice and S180 tumor cells. When Mo is blocked with silica gel, the antineoplastic effect of Fang Feng polysaccharide is weakened considerably, with the solid tumor-inhibiting rate decreased from 52.92% to 11.82%. This fact suggests that the antineoplastic effect of Fang Feng polysaccharide is closely associated with Mo.( 4)
