The holiday season is approaching and it's likely that many homeowners will end up purchasing a new flat panel TV. Buying a new flat panel TV is probably the easiest component to buy and install. The hard part is buying the flat panel TV mount. I'd like to share with you some tips on how to buy a flat panel TV mount.

Most flat panel TV's don't come with mounting hardware. You're going to have to buy a flat panel TV mount kit. In order to purchase a flat panel mount there are a few basic things you'll need to know.

Video Electronics Standards Association
Most flat panel TV's use the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) standards. VESA compatible TV's will publish a VESA number telling you what type of flat panel mount you need to buy. For example, a VESA 75 means the mounting holes are in a square pattern 75 mm apart. Or a VESA 100/200 means the mounting holes are in a rectangular patern with one set of holes at 100 mm and the other set of holes at 200 mm. This information is typically available in the owners manual or you can find it online at the manufacturers website.

Flat Panel Size and Weight Limits
Most flat panel TV mounts also include size and weight limits. It's extremely important to make sure the flat panel TV mount has sufficient capacity for the size and weight of your new flat panel TV. Again your flat panel TV should have this information in the owners manual or available online.

Flat Panel TV Mount Options
Flat panel TV mounts come with different options. Before buying your flat panel TV mount you should think about where you're going to mount the TV and what adjustments you might need. Will you want the ability to swivel your TV mount from left to right? Will you want to be able to tilt the TV up and down? Would you like to be able to nudge it left, right, up and down to get it centered exactly where you want? These are all options that you can find with flat panel TV mounts.

Where To Buy Flat Panel TV Mounts
You can buy a large variety of flat panel TV mounts at Amazon. I really like buying electronics at Amazon because most items ship free and they have such a great selection. So if you get a new flat panel TV this year be sure to find the right mount to support your new investment.
