Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is conveniently located three miles from Fort Lauderdale's central business district and within easy distance of the cities of Hollywood and Miami. 1. Getting To And From The Airport

When approaching Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport from the north, take I-95 South to I-595 East and bear right onto the South Federal Highway (U.S.1). From there take the Airport exit and follow the signs. If you are traveling from the south, take I-95 North to I-595 East, bear right onto U.S. 1 and take the Airport exit. If coming from Fort Lauderdale Beach, from AIA head west on Las Olas Blvd. or Sunrise Blvd. to the Federal Highway, then south on U.S. 1 to the Airport exit.

To find these areas, follow the remote parking signs from the terminals. There are free, 24-hour shuttle services to the terminals, running every 15 minutes. 2. Parking Options

With many parking spaces close to its terminals and a plentiful supply of options, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has parking provisions to suit all needs. You can park for minutes, for an hour, for several hours, for a day or for longer. You can even use airport's valet/premier parking service and have your vehicle washed and waxed while you are away.

Color-coded signs as you approach the airport indicate the areas of the garage complex that will put you as close as possible to the terminal you want. 3. Cell Phone Waiting Area

When you are collecting someone from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport you don't have to take the time to park, leave your car and wait in the terminal. Instead you can use the free cell phone waiting area, located off the main entrance to the airport. You can wait there in your car until your passengers let you know they have collected their luggage and are ready to leave, and then drive directly to the pick-up point.

To access the area when approaching from I-595 or US-1 Southbound, turn right at Griffin Road, right again at the traffic signal after the railroad tracks, merge right on Perimeter Road and you will find the cell phone waiting area one mile ahead on the left. From US1 Northbound turn left at Griffin Road and follow the same directions. From I-95 and Griffin Road Eastbound, take Griffin Road East, turn left at the traffic signal and follow the same directions.

With paving and lighting, the cell phone waiting area provides a convenient and comfortable place in which to wait. Remember that you have to stay with your vehicle in this area. No unattended vehicles, and no commercial vehicles, are allowed to use the free cell phone waiting area at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

4. Transportation On The Ground

As well as driving to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport you can use a diversity of other options to get to and from the airport and to travel around while you are there. Public transport by both bus and train is available. You can travel direct to the airport on a Broward County Transit (BCT) bus or feeder buses operated by Tri-Rail. It's easy to find bus stops at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport: they are located at the west end of Terminal 1, between Terminals 2 and 3 and between Terminals 3 and 4.

5. Airport Art Show

As well as being an important aviation hub, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is making a major contribution to the promotion and display of art. For more than two decades, the airport has participated in the Broward County Public Art and Design program, established to enhance the county's heritage and to increase awareness and understanding of the visual arts. Through the program, public art is displayed in such areas as parks, libraries, courthouses, along roadways and throughout Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Since becoming part of the program, the airport has commissioned many pieces of art for public display in its terminals and surroundings. 6. Helping People With Special Needs

Help is available for passengers with special needs when they use Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and its facilities. For people with limits to their upper body mobility, for example, there is a feature that allows access to parking areas without the need to retrieve a ticket. A speaker phone and camera are used instead to obtain information about the vehicle, and the charge is calculated when the car leaves the parking lot. In order to connect to the wireless service you need a device such as a laptop or personal digital assistant with a compatible (802.11b) wireless card.
