23RD ANNUAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL RUN

DESCRIPTION: The 5K is a local event that draws folks from far and wide. Why? Because it starts the Shrimp Festival Parade which is in its 50th year this year. Always held on the second weekend of March, the Shrimp Festival celebrates our own Shrimp fleet responsible for supplying those delicious golden pink shrimp that the Gulf of Mexico has to offer. The race begins at 1661 Estero Blvd, goes through Times Square, over the Sky Bridge and back again to end at the Key Estero Plaza, the beginning. The race is sanctioned by the Fort Myers Track Club and costs $20 before and $25 day of the race for registration. The Track Club keeps the official times. After the race, the parade starts. It is followed by the Shrimp Festival Expo held at Lynn Hall Park, next to Times Square. The Expo continues on Sunday. It’s a fun filled weekend for the whole family.
13TH ANNUAL “TASTE OF THE BEACH”
DATE: June 8th, 2008
TIME: 11am – 5pm
DESCRIPTION: Come join us as we taste the delicacies of Fort Myers Beach! This event held on Old San Carlos Blvd on Fort Myers Beach hosts 15-20 restaurants and 15 exhibitors for a day sampling the islands best dishes. Music, children’s games and plenty of refreshments promise an entertaining day at the Beach. $3.00 Entrance per person. Food items range from $1-$4 each. Help decide who has the best dish by voting for your favorite dish.
3RD ANNUAL PIRATE FESTIVAL
DATE: October 11, 12, 2008
TIME: 10AM
DESCRIPTION: Join the Pirates of Fort Myers Beach as they do re-enactments from land & sea, tell stories and perform music of the time period. Each morning a Parade starts off the day with Pirates of all ages marching through Times Square. Everyone is invited to dress up, eat, enjoy refreshments and visit with vendors selling Pirate wares. A Treasure Hunt is featured one day and a Pub Crawl will take you to your favorite water holes. Costume prizes for young and old alike. Be sure to make reservations to stay the entire weekend.

22ND ANNUAL AMERICAN SANDSCULPTING CHAMPIONSHIP FESTIVAL
DATE: November 5-9, 2008 All Day
DESCRIPTION: This five day World Class competition is the premier event for Fort Myers Beach. Sandsulptors from China, Canada and the United States come to compete. They love the sugary-fine sand, the beautiful November weather and the friendly people that really appreciate their art. Watch the sculptures evolve from the first day right through judging. 75,000 people enjoy this spectacular event. There is no charge. The sculptors are at the Holiday Inn of Fort Myers Beach, 6890 Estero Blvd and Outrigger Beach Resort, 6200 Estero Blvd. In between, the event hosts “Sand Magic Village”, vendor area that offers fair food and lots of crafters.
