With the graphic design field increasingly becoming more competitive, designers need to figure out a way on how to best promote their services. Creating project portfolios is sometimes problematic because of the lack of interface between software programs typically used by graphic designers and software programs that aid in creating portfolios. Not anymore. Graphic designer programs such as InDesign and Illustrator have the capability of exporting completed projects as
a PDF file.

While you can use cyberspace to showcase your work, it could be tedious to construct a portfolio that is accessible and readable by web browsers. Being able to export completed project files into PDF, it will allow you to customize your brochure and putting your best work forward. You can later email this file to prospective clients.

Just like any brochure or portfolio, you must select from your collection of completed works what you deem would best reflect your capability as a designer. You can also create themes within the portfolio wherein you can group your work accordingly. This way, the portfolio is organized and easy to review for clients. For example, if the client is interested in poster designs, he/she can simply turn to the page where you have executed poster designs. A general mix of works should be included in your portfolio to showcase your versatility as a designer. Organizing them according to the degree of importance would also be a good start.

Each work you include must indicate the clients name, a project description, what you did, where the client could see it or has the project received special citations. Along with the portfolio, you can also incorporate some information about you or your company, what you do and where they can get in touch with you. You may also include a list of clients that have obtained your services both past and present.

After you have done your selection, you must decide on how the portfolio will look. Treat this like you would treat any graphic design project. Keep in mind that this is meant to showcase your expertise and good presentation counts. Once you have completed the design, you can export the file into PDF while keeping the original file to allow you to make amendments in the future. You can use Adobe Acrobat Professional to collate the pages together and compress the
file into a manageable size.

Now, you can simply email your portfolio to potential clients. This eliminates the need to access your website whenever a client wants to view your work. With your portfolio in PDF format, the client can view it at his/her convenience without having the need to go online. It would just require a software program that reads PDF files. With your portfolio in a compact and organize file, it eliminates the need to flip from one program to another just to access the project that you want to show to clients. Online or offline, anytime, anywhere, you can easily access your portfolio and generate more business.
