In 1968 a physician, a pharmacist and a police officer came together to respond to a growing substance abuse problem in their community. They gave their time, effort and money and founded an organization that has changed lives for more than 4 decades now. As a result of their commitment and desire to make a difference in the lives of people seeking help, Drug Abuse Foundation was born.

The spirit of community service became the guiding principle for the Foundation as it responded to the problem of drugs throughout the past three decades. This spirit is embodied in the long-term commitment, support and leadership provided by individuals like former Mayor of Delray Beach, Leon M. Weekes, Ernest G. Simon, Esq., Richard Siemens, and Frank Carey. The Foundation’s history of successful community service cannot be told without paying tribute to these individuals.

In 1991 the Foundation opened the first public campus dedicated to the prevention and treatment of substance abuse in Palm Beach County. Named in honor of tennis legend Chris Evert and life director of the Foundation, Richard Siemens, the Siemens-Evert Comprehensive Service Campus strives to meet the changing needs of this community.

Our continuum of care is based upon a balanced, client centered service strategy. The Foundation seeks to provide every client with the best opportunity to achieve a successful outcome.

Our Vision

Combining the structure and discipline of an intense therapeutic program with the resocialization and experience of sober fun.

Proud of a Lasting Heritage
Pride in a Unique Program
Beach Comber Rehab

Joseph Bryan has been named Executive Director of The Beachcomber. He follows in the path of his father, James Bryan, who founded the facility in Florida in 1976 and whose career spanned decades of leadership in the field of alcoholism treatment and addiction treatment. James died on December 1, 2005.

Jim had begun changes at The Beachcomber as plans for retirement dawned. It was then his son, Joe, expressed interest in management. He had worked at the facility since 1980 then in 1987, with a degree in business administration from Florida Atlantic University, Joe was ready for the health care career that has followed.

First as marketing director and community spokesman for The Beachcomber, Joe learned the importance of a “homelike atmosphere.” He noted how residents responded positively to the program and felt ready to share his knowledge with a broad range of referral agencies.

By 1992 Joe had advanced to program director with Jim Bryan available for consultation. Changes were smooth and orderly so as Executive Director Joe’s transition is now complete. The Beachcomber’s experienced staff faces the future with confidence in a program developed over a thirty year span.

Since its opening the program has been keyed to treatment in an intimate, homelike environment. In the words of the founder, Jim Bryan, “it’s a residential program where hope and fulfillment begin to replace fear, anger and loneliness.”

Keyed to the principals of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, a combination of factors makes the residential experience unique for those seeking treatment in the appealing, tropical setting.

Palm Partners was founded in 1994 by two recovering alcoholics and drug addicts that saw the need for specialized treatment services to ensure long term recovery. Our facility is structured as a combination of a 12-Step model integrated with a variety of innovative and state of the art treatment strategies. We believe that success is contingent upon this simple principle: when people do the right things for the right reasons, they can recover from alcohol, other forms of chemical dependency, and can become successful in life. This principle, as practiced by our staff and instilled in the clients we serve, ultimately benefits the client, their families, the recovering community, and society at large.

Our growth has been consistent since our inception. We have continued to be a center of excellence and an example for the treatment industry. Our model of treatment is derived from the experiences of our clients, our seasoned staff, and extensive research in the field of addictive and psychiatric disorders. Our staff has vast experience in the field of addictions, recovery, relapse prevention, mental health, and alternative healing methods.

Specializing in Women

The Orchid was founded to meet the needs of women that were not being addressed by the recovery community. The Orchid holds the belief that substance abuse in women has a cause, a progress and a societal perception different than that of men. Specifically women addicts are more likely to have poor self concepts of guilt and blame, and mental health problems than male addicts. Furthermore, they are more likely than men to let social stigma, labeling and guilt prevent them from seeking help.

The Orchid Model of recovery was created to address these differences. It provides a different experience due to its embrace of the relational growth model first espoused by Dr. Karen Dodge, its focus on trauma and its dedication to a holistic approach to recovery. The relational growth modelposesthat recovery in women is more likely to be successful when a woman is a part of a trusting, interdependent network of other women. To help women create this network, the relational growth model guides and encourages women to live, work, play and communicate with one another during the recovery process.

The Orchid Model of treatment identifies that the impact of untreated trauma on women in early recovery can be devastating. This trauma often leads to unhealthy choices, a continuing inability to function without chemicals and chronic relapse. This trauma can be significant or persistent physical, emotional, verbal or sexual abuse in either the past or present that affects a woman’s self-esteem, emotional well-being or ability to cope. The Orchid Model’s commitment to a holistic healing informs The Orchid’s embrace of a wide variety of treatment modalities. Cognitive behavioral therapy techniques are used in conjunction with other drug treatment modalities more conducive to coaxing expression and resolution in women with issues of trust and articulation of pain. Healing art therapy, dynamic group work, psychodrama treatment, family sculpting and twelve step recovery, are alltools used for women to receive maximum therapeutic benefits, throughout their treatment experience.
