∗ When you buy hand tools make sure they have brightly colored handles so you can see them easier and not lose them in the garden. You can also paint the handles as well just so they are more easily spotted.

∗ Clean your garden gloves when you are finished gardening. If you do not do this you will ruin your gardening gloves quicker and have to buy them more often.

∗ Use a wooden ruler to use as a depth gauge. You can paint markings on the ruler for depths that you use often. When you are done using the ruler wipe it clean.

∗ If you do not have a pair of gardening gloves, even though you should, you can scrape your fingernails on a bar of soap as this will create a barrier between the dirt and your nails and keep them from cracking. The soap will come off when you wash your hands when you are finished gardening.

∗ If you dip a small whiskbroom in water it can make a good device for sprinkling water on smaller seedlings.

∗ To keep your tools from rusting keep them in a bucket that has a mixture of sand and oil. You can use either cooking oil or motor oil in the mixture.

∗ To remove the rust from your gardening tools use fine grade sandpaper and rub the rust off. If you have clippers that have rust use a cloth that is dipped in lemon juice and tartar cream and rub the rust off.

∗ To create plant markers you can use wooden coffee stirrers or old Popsicle sticks. You can coat them with a waterproof substance so you can use them for a long time. You can also color coordinate them with the plants in your garden. For example, red for tomatoes or green for cucumbers, and so on. This will make it easier to know what is where in your garden.

∗ To get rid of aphids in your garden place strips of flypaper in various locations around your garden. You can also use wide strips of scotch tape to remove aphids from your plants.

∗ Use old spice containers or saltshakers for the scattering of small seeds that you will plant in your garden.

∗ When you transplant larger plants or trees in your garden use either a snow shovel or large piece of cardboard to drag the plant or tree to its new location.

∗ Buy a cheap set of both measuring cups and measuring spoons that you can use in your garden.

∗ You can use regular coffee filters and put them in the bottom of flowerpots to keep the dirt from seeping through when there is leftover water flow.

∗ You can reuse the water you rinse your veggies or fruit with and then water the plants and flowers in your garden. Do not do this if the water is infested with bugs.

∗ You can also reuse cooking water to water the plants in your garden, as it is full of nutrients that can be good for your plants and flowers.
