Building healthy lives is what Outreach is all about. For over three decades, we've been a premier provider and champion of quality, life-changing drug and alcohol abuse treatment and training services - the kind that help individuals and their families throughout the Greater New York area cope with their problems, heal themselves and move forward in a more positive direction. We know. We understand. And we're totally committed to making a difference now and in the future.
Our Mission is...
To inspire individuals and families to achieve a life of unlimited potential by developing and delivering the highest quality evidence-based behavioral health services and training.
Outreach History
Co-founded in 1980 by our president, Kathleen A. Riddle, Outreach began as an assessment and referral center in Glendale, Queens with an original grant of $60,000 and an initial staff of three. Working out of a small storefront, our mission was to encourage local community residents to seek help for substance abuse problems.
In our early years, we quickly discovered the scarcity of resources and lack of services available in the Greater New York area to address such serious issues. Treatment gaps were especially apparent for adolescents and women.
Outreach responded by designing much-needed programs specifically for these populations, particularly youthful substance abusers. As a result, our services have grown to include advocacy, adolescent and adult drug and alcohol treatment, vocational services, and community and professional training.
Today, with a staff of over 250 employees, Outreach continues to offer state-of-the-art intervention, rehabilitation and training programs at seven locations in New York City and on Long Island.
Outreach has been named one of the Best Companies to Work For in New York State 2010, 2011, and 2012.

NWOOD COMMUNITY SERVICES, INC. (ICS) is a not-for-profit community-based organization established in 1979 by a group of concerned community residents led by the then pastor of the Church of Good Shepherd, John J. Foley, CSP, to serve the residents of the Inwood-Washington Heights community. Celebrating its 26th year anniversary, ICS’ budget has grown from $20,000 in 1979 to approximately $3,000,000 today. Directed by Dr. Charles Corliss (who has been the agency’s Executive Director since its inception), ICS currently has a staff of over 100 employees and provides extensive programming for children, adolescents, adults and families in COUNSELING; LITERACY; YOUTH SERVICES; AND PREVENTION.
ICS is unique in Community Board #12 in that it has responded to significant community need with comprehensive, professional programs (e.g., three different certified treatment clinics), yet, has maintained its grass roots, culturally competent, family focus. ICS has also flourished as a result of the long term commitments of its dedicated neighborhood Board of Directors. (Click here to see Board listing) It has also had the very good fortune of retaining a number of highly capable, committed staff.

Our vision at Mental Health Providers of Western Queens is to be an active resource in our community. This is a considerable challenge in Western Queens where forty nine percent of the population are immigrants from many countries, interspersed with residents from earlier migrations. This gives reverse meaning to the term "Global Village" in the sense that little parts of the world have assembled in our community. The norms of this "New Village" are still unformed and local Social Service Providers, Mental Health Systems, and the School System are called on to help. At Mental Health Providers we work to be a resource in this “New Village”, where many ethnic groups have assembled often bringing with them trauma and loss.

Many of our professional staff are drawn or developed from this same immigrant population. Thus, cumulatively we have mental health professionals who speak nine languages. They help to bridge the gap between "there" and "here". They extend the “Village” and help clients feel more at home and receptive to services. Mental Health is our greatest resource. It enables us to maintain relationships, engage in work, take care of our physical health and contribute to society. At Mental Health Providers of Western Queens, Inc., our mission is to help each individual reach and maintain their highest level of functioning. Our programs are organized around this principle. We are dedicated to being a resource for good in our community in an open and receptive manner.

Samaritan Village is …
Good for our communities.

There is not a single one of us who doesn’t know someone who might benefit from the services of Samaritan Village. Each person who enters our programs can create a wave of success that ripples outward. Samaritan Village returns hundreds of men and women to communities across New York as productive and contributing members.
Good for those who want to be themselves again.

Recovery from addiction means having peace of mind with oneself and others. Samaritan Village offers evidence-based residential and outpatient treatment, detoxification, mental health services, and on-site medical care for men and women struggling with substance abuse, and guides them to the road to recovery.
Good for those who have protected our freedoms.

Samaritan Village pioneered programs to help veterans suffering from substance abuse, post traumatic stress disorders and other life challenges. Today, we operate three residential treatment facilities for veterans including the nation's first exclusively for women veterans.
Good for families.

Challenges like substance abuse and homelessness can tear families apart A unique program keeps families together by allowing moms to receive residential drug treatment while their babies receive one-on-one care on-site. And a community-based supportive services program works to combat homelessness among at-risk veterans and their families.
Good for those who are ready to have their own place.

Samaritan Village works with men, women and families in our shelters, transitional residences and treatment programs to help them build the needed skills to return to their communities and live independently. Samaritan Village is expanding its permanent housing services to assist those who show the responsibility to maintain their own home.
Good for those who want to work.

Samaritan Village provides vocational and educational assessment, career counseling, and job placement assistance and referrals to literacy and skills training to ensure clients become gainfully employed and self-sufficient when they leave our programs and return to the community.
Good for senior citizens.

A safe, creative place to go. A place to feel connected. Samaritan Village shows its compassion for senior citizens who still have much to offer. Our vibrant senior center provides a place for seniors who are looking for ways to stay active and stay connected.
