Ah the dreaded writer’s block, responsible for more frustration, pain and anguish than anything else a writer can experience...

How many times have you sat staring at a blank page, feeling as if droplets of blood are forming on your worried brow? Writer’s block can be completely debilitating and drain a writer’s confidence like nothing else.

But you don’t need to be a helpless victim.

There ARE ways to beat writer’s block and vastly reduce its negative effects.

Here’s a powerful 3 step approach you can start using today:

  1. Boost your self belief. Be honest, what do you really believe about yourself as a writer and your writing abilities? And what beliefs do you hold about writers in general?

For example maybe you know you’re a very social and outgoing person. But you have the belief that writers should be introverted and hermit like. This conflict in beliefs will have an effect on you, maybe without you realising. You’ll either write less or go out less. Or both!

Write down – on 2 separate pages - all the beliefs you have about yourself as a writer and about writers in general. Notice the areas that could be holding you back from writing to your full potential. Then start working on new, more positive beliefs.

  2. Develop a daily writing habit. This step is the single most powerful a writer – or indeed any creative artist – can take. The only way to consistent writing, developing your writing abilities and preventing writer’s block is to write each and every day.

Writing should be as much a part of your day as breathing, eating and sleeping. Choose the time of day you feel you’re naturally most productive, and write for a minimum of 15 minutes at this same time each day.

Don’t try to squeeze it in only when you have time, it won’t work. Don’t only write when you feel highly inspired, it won’t work. 15 minutes, at the same time each day, can transform your writing, and make writer’s block all but disappear.
