If you have joined many of the thousands of consumers who are making the switch to plasma screen TVs, there are some important things you need to know to help you in your purchase. There are many new manufacturers that have joined the ever increasing line up, and many different quality, sizes and resolutions to pick from. What you truly need to know is that the more expensive TVs may not look any better than the cheaper versions. It all depends on what you plan on using your plasma TV for.

  1. Size: The size of your plasma TV is going to determine what other features and resolutions of your plasma you should be picking. Keep in mind that if you are picking a plasma screen tv for your home, you will want to be able to make sure it fits properly into the space you have alloted it. Once you have picked your size, you can base your other choices off of the following.

  2. High Def: High Definition cannot be found in TVs smaller than 50 inches. This actually means that if you are shelling out big bucks for a tiny high definition tv, it is not going to be worth it. The screen size will be small enough that you will not be able to appreciate the image quality from any sort of distance. Not to mention, since the screen is so small, the plasma will not be able to display the sheer number of pixels demanded by high definition standards.

  3. The wonders of EDTV: Depending on what exactly it is you plan to be watching, and the size of the television you picked, you may be better off with selecting an EDTV. If you have two plasmas of the same size in a small version of the varying types, you will not be able to notice any difference. Even if you purchase a larger TV, like 42 inch, but plan on sitting about 8 feet away from it, your eyes will not be able to notice the difference between an EDTV version, and an HDTV.
