You aren't going to want a gerbil with bite marks because this could mean that the gerbil is prone to getting into fights with other animals. Finally you will want to pick a gerbil that has smooth, soft fur with a tail that is in good shape. You'll know the tail is okay if there is a tuft of hair at the end....
