If you're throwing a party, it just takes one trip to the party supply store, or one visit to an online merchant to quickly figure out that there is an astounding array of products available to choose from. There are many factors to consider when choosing and buying party decorations, so let's go over the main ones and help narrow down your choices.
- The first thing you need to consider is the person and/or event being celebrated. Is it a birthday party for a child? If so, those adorable light-up martini glasses may not be the best choice. Super bowl party? Stay away from pink streamers.
- The second thing you need to do is choose a theme and a color scheme. Your choices are wide open here. For example, seasonal parties have lots of theme possibilities. In summer, you can go for a beach or summer sport theme. For Halloween, pumpkins, ghosts, and monsters abound. Choose something simple and easy to work with, and then pick your main colors to fit the theme. Now you've already narrowed down your search by a considerable margin.
- The third thing to consider is the party location. Indoors or outside? How big is the space? Do you need large items, or small table decorations? Picture the party location in your mind, and write down all the spots you want to enhance with party decorations. Then you can itemize a list of small and large decorations you'll need to purchase.
- Next, think about the types of decorations you want. Traditional items like helium balloons, streamers, banners, party hats, noise makers, etc. are all a great basis for your decor. You don't have to be limited here though. Party supply stores offer a wide variety of new and nifty items that you can choose from. Consider adding strings of mini lights, or glittery garland. Check out home and garden stores for some inspiration as well.
