Remove uwanted running programs
For Windows users, you may check your Task Manager by holding CTRL + ALT + DEL and look at the programs running. Most of the process names are self-explanatory so you'll be able to know what specific application uses it. If the process name is somewhat unclear, you may research the process name at your favorite search engine and it will gladly return application that uses it in its result page.
Protect/cure your PCs from spyware/viruses/worms/etc.
If you think that your PC is virus/spyware/worm/trojan-free, it is still better to protect your PCs with programs that attack on malicious softwares. There are a lot of these free programs. AVG, Ad-Aware, to name a few.
If during your querying for answers, your search engine told you that the process is a virus, worm, malware, etc., you may opt to get an anti-virus/worm/malware program.
Free disk space
You may do this by:
- Freeing your cache/temporary internet files.
- Emptying your recyle bin.
- Removing temporary installation files.
There are also lots of free third-party applications that can do these all for you. An example of this application is CleanUp.
Clean your registry
The registry is a bit fragile. You may instead install CCleaner to remove unnecessary entries in your registry. Of course, there are other registry cleaners available.
Choose your startup programs
Check only programs you prefer in the StartUp tab of your MsConfiguration Utility. You may do this by clicking Star, then click Run. In the input box put msconfig. Search for the StartUp tab. From there, you may then select the programs you prefer to start automatically when your PC starts. ...
