Steps
- Note that the ratio of the mix is 6 parts sand, 2 parts lime, 1 part cement.
- Pour 2/3 bucket of water into the mixer.
- Fill bucket to top with sand and pour 6 full buckets of the sand into mixer.
- Add another half bucket of water to ensure the mix is still wet.
- Fill 2 buckets of lime and pour into mixer.
- Leave to mix for about 3 minutes.
- Fill one bucket of cement and pour into mixer.
- Repeat the whole procedure to make a bigger mix depending on the size of the mixer, but keep to the same ratios and add water at regular intervals - not all at the end.
- Leave the mixer running at a slow pace for 5 minutes to get a pliable smooth mortar.
Warnings
- Watch your eyes when dealing with sand, lime and cement as the dust from the dry cement and lime is extremely hazardous and the mixer can also spit out some of the mix when turning. Goggles are recommended.
