Watching a high quality romantic movie is a great way to spend an intimate evening with a loved one, have a girl's night in, or simply unwind. With the myriad of movies out there, however, choosing the right romantic movie can be tough. Here are a few helpful hints to aid in the quest of choosing the right one.
- Decide on a Theme. The romance genre is chock-full of varying romantic themes. There are movies about love triangles, movies about traveling through time to find "the one," and movies involving best friends evolving into, well, better friends. Think about with whom you will be watching the movie (whether a boyfriend or some girlfriends), and pick the movie that best matches the situation. If you and your partner have muddled through some trials and tribulations as of late, then choosing a movie that reflects love overcoming all obstacles, such as "Moulin Rouge," may be most appropriate. By that same note, "The End of the Affair" can be a cathartic release for anyone suffering through a painful breakup.
- Setting the Right Mood. Thinking about the mood you are in and the mood you'd like to be left in is a great way to choose a romantic movie. A happy romantic comedy can be just the thing to pep you and a mate up after a stressful day at work. If you find yourself in a particularly sour mood, then try to find a movie that will lift your spirits, such as "The Truth About Cats and Dogs."
- Think about Differing Personalities. It's no secret that people come in all shapes and sizes, and what piques their romantic interest varies just as widely. When selecting a romantic movie, think about your mate's personality. Does he fancy himself a film noir buff? Then perhaps"Out of the Past," starring the steely-eyed Robert Mitchum and the voluptuous beauty Jane Greer, would be more his cup of tea. If time travel is more your bent, then"Kate and Leopold" might very well be your portal. Likewise, a group of girlfriends will love the ever-effervescent Jennifer Garner in "13 Going on 30." Keep in mind that your mate may not respond well to too much mush, so take a risk and think outside of the box by selecting "Goodfellas." There's plenty of machismo, and the blazing romance between Ray Liotta and Lorraine Bracco willbe romantic enough for both you.
