Steps

  1. You need 4 pieces of wood 30 inches (762mm) long and 2" by 2" (around 50mm X 50mm).
  2. Get a piece of wood measuring 60 in. x 84 in. x 3/4 inches thick (610mm X 610mm X 19mm) for the table top.
  3. Sand wood with light sandpaper until all the edges are smooth and flat.
  4. Buy 8 L-shaped metal brackets 2 inches (50mm) long on each branch of the "L."
  5. Get a package of 1-1/2-inch-long (38mm), size 8 wood screws.
  6. Position the bracket at the end of the leg, so that the bend of the bracket is flush with the end of the piece of wood. If the wood is very hard, mark and predrill the holes where the screws will go. The drilled holes should only be the diameter of the solid metal at the bottom of the screw thread. Only drill deep enough to get the screw well started. Screw a bracket onto each leg.
  7. Rotate the leg 90 degrees and screw in a second bracket. Repeat with each leg.
  8. Get some screws 1/4 (6mm) to 1/2 inch (12mm) shorter than the thickness of the tabletop.
  9. Put the tabletop on the floor with the top facing down.
  10. Place a table leg, bracket end down, on the tabletop's corner.
  11. Line up the edge of the leg with the edge of the tabletop.
  12. Hold the bracket down on the tabletop and screw one of the screws through the hole in the bracket.
  13. Screw the other bracket into the tabletop.
  14. Repeat with all four legs.
  15. Turn the table over.
  16. Shake the table to check for motion. If there is motion, sink two long screws through the tabletop into the top of each leg, or replace the brackets with longer, thicker ones.
  17. Paint or stain the table a color of your choice.
  18. Let it dry overnight before using it.

Tips

  • Make sure all the 4 pieces of wood are the same length before starting.
  • Make sure the screws attaching to the tabletop are not too long.
  • Be sure that the stock selected for the table top is planed to the exact same thickness.
