There are several things that you need to take into consideration when you care for parrots. For starters, parrots need attention and they like attention. Parrots really do make great pets if all their needs are taken care of.

A healthy diet is important. Much of the diet of a parrot is rather similar to that of a human. Parrots eat quite a bit of pellets. Pellets can give them a good stable base to their diet. However, they need a variety of other fresh foods in their diet. Some ideal foods to enhance the parrot's diet are broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, green beans and sunflower seeds. In addition, a few things really should not be fed to them, such as chocolate and avocados. You need to check the water dish that you provide a couple of times a day to refill it and keep it nice and clean.

Parrots need a good sturdy cage. You must select the cage with care. It must be the proper size for the size of the bird. If the cage is way to small this can really be a problem. You certainly do not want them to feel too confined or cramped. Remember that they spend a good portion of their time in the cage and to care for parrots properly it must fit their needs. One of the better types of cages is made of stainless steel construction. Wooden cages are to be avoided, because parrots can damage them.

In caring for your parrot, you want to make sure he has access to plenty of exercise to keep him healthy and happy. There are toys that you can put into his cage to help amuse him. However, he needs time outside of his cage as a better form of exercise. Caution should be used if there are other animals in the home, while he is out of his cage. Unfortunately, a dog or a cat getting to them has killed many pet parrots.

In order to care for your parrot properly it will need to be groomed a couple of times a week. You can groom him by giving him a bath and using a spray bottle to mist him. Shampoo's are also available that are designed just for birds. Parrots naturally like water, so if you are gentle with the bird, it will get use to its bath and there should not be any problems.

As you can see, how to care for parrots is relatively simple.
