Connecting two computers together allow users to share files, or share an internet connection. You may have a home office setup that would require you to pass on files to another computer or share the same printer, so you will need to hook up these two computers to make sharing easier.

Get a crossover cable and attach them to the Ethernet.

You may purchase a crossover cable at an electronics store or have one made for you. These are Ethernet cables that allow you to make high speed transfers. The Ethernet is found at the back of your pc and usually where you plug in your DSL modem and the port resembles a phone jack. The crossover cables are built with wires to send and receive, so connecting them to your computer is just as is easy as plugging it in.

Make sure you purchase a crossover cable and it is labeled as such. The regular Ethernet cables will not provide the same function we need for our purpose. After cables are connected to both computers, youll need to configure the computers for networking, which means going to your My Network Connections and TC/IP properties window to configure both computers to have the same IP addresses (ex. 192.168.0.1) and put in 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask.

Activate your computers Bluetooth.

Most computers now have Bluetooth capability that make sharing files easier than having to plug two computers with cables. And this option makes it best for mobile devices. Setting up this option can be accomplished easily and you can start sending files right away. The only problem with Bluetooth is that transferring large files can be slow on this option.

To receive a file, open the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard and click Receive a file, then on the computer you wish to send a file from, youll need to open the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard too and click Send a file. Browse for the computer youll be transferring files to and select it. Now choose a file to send then click next and your computer will start transmitting to send that file to the other computer.

To receive a file from a mobile device just set your computer to receive file and on the mobile device set up your Bluetooth to search for Bluetooth activated devices in the area and select the computer you wish to send to. Select the file on your mobile device and send to transmit the transfer of that file.

Connecting two computers with crossover cables makes sharing files and programs easier. The Ethernet card on your computer facilitates both computers to receive and send files faster with the crossover cables.

Quick Tips:
Make sure the Ethernet cable you purchase for connecting two computers is labeled as a crossover cable to receive and send files.

Make sure you configure both computers with the same IP addresses.
