Pork ribs are delicious! Although they take some patience, they are easy to make. Most of the time that goes into making pork ribs is just the time they'll be cooking, and this is relatively hands-off. Many people have their own secret recipes for sauces or marinades, but few know how to cook pork ribs once the sauce is ready. Here's how to cook pork ribs:

  1. Start with good ribs. You can make pork spareribs, country style ribs, or baby back ribs; spareribs work best because they have more fat. Use at least half a rack of spareribs, or a full rack of baby back ribs, per person. You can use any kind of marinade or sauce you want; use a good barbecue sauce for best results.
  2. Marinate overnight. Before you cook the ribs, marinate them overnight in the sauce you've prepared. This will help the flavor soak into the meat. If you are making a large quantity of ribs, try cooking half a rack the day before to work out the cooking method, temperature, and time. This way, your company will be treated to perfectly cooked, flavorful pork ribs.
  3. Prepare the cooking method. The trick to great ribs is to cook them very slowly. You can do this is an oven with a rib rack, with the temperature set to around 225 degrees Fahrenheit. You can also use an electric smoker, set to 200 to 250 degrees. It is also possible to cook pork ribs on the grill. If you're cooking the ribs in your oven, use an aluminum pan to catch any drippings. The rib rack is necessary to cook the ribs standing up, which can save space and also ensure that the ribs cook evenly.
  4. Cook the ribs. The cooking times will vary greatly depending on your cooking method and the amount of ribs you are making; it should take around 4 and a half or 5 hours. When done, the meat should almost be falling off the bone, but not quite. You should be able to turn the bone a little in the meat without a lot of effort. If the meat is still firmly attached to the bone, they aren't quite ready. Make sure that your ribs have enough sauce during the entire cooking time, otherwise they may become dry and tough.
  5. Enjoy! Once your ribs are cooked, enjoy your feast! Serve with coleslaw, fries, baked beans, corn on the cob, or biscuits.

Needless to say, there are many variations on how to cook pork ribs. You can cook pork ribs using an oven, grill, smoker, or slow-cooker. Some people leave the sauce off until the end of the cooking, although many feel that this method produces less flavorful ribs.
