How to Fix a Garden Hose

There are a lot of people that have damaged or broken hoses in their yard. Just because a hose is damaged or broken it does not mean that you have to buy a brand new hose. It is not hard to fix the end of a garden hose and it will save you a lot of money.

Here are a few things you will need in order to fix your garden hose:

1. Screwdriver
2. Sharp knife or razor blade
3. Garden Hose
4. Garden Hose Connector Ends

Once you have the materials here are step-by-step instructions on how to fix your garden hose.

∗ The first thing you need to do is purchase a new set of connector ends, which you can get at any hardware or gardening store. All of the connectors will fit any garden hose, as they are universal.

∗ Take the damaged hose and drain out all of the water. To do this just lift the hose over your head until all the water is out.

∗ Take a razor blade or knife and cut the hose 1/2 inch below the connector end, which is already attached. You can poke a hole in the hose to make cutting it an easier job.

∗ Get the new connector end and then slide it 1-2 inches past the end of the garden hose. It may be the case where you will need to loosen the connector clamp in order to fit it onto the hose.

∗ Tighten the connector to the hose using the screwdriver. The connector will have a clamp and a screw on it, which will allow you to tighten the piece onto the garden hose.

∗ Now test it by pulling on the connector and if it moves you need to tighten the clamp again.

∗ Next you have to place the washer, which comes with the connector, down in the connector. It should lay flat against the hose.

∗ The final step is to connect the garden hose to the faucet and turn it on. You need to check for leaks in the hose or where the connector is. If there are any leaks in the connector you need to tighten the clamp again.

TIPS

∗ If there are many cracks in the hose it may be less expensive to buy a new hose. But if it is only one or two cracks it can be cheaper to follow these instructions and repair the garden hose.

∗ The connector ends are constructed of either brass or plastic. They both install the same way, as the only difference is that the brass ends will use a flange instead of screws.
